Obama’s Cabinet?

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

The Politico polls Obama insiders and comes up with a list of possible nominees for cabinet secretaries and top-level advisors.

What’s interesting is that despite Obama’s campaign talk of revolutionary change, with few exceptions, the Politico list looks like a markedly un-radical list of establishment Democrats and moderate Republicans.

"Broken Windows" guru William Bratton for Drug Czar isn’t particularly encouraging.  But then, I’m probably not going to like the nominee of any president who wants to continue with that ridiculous position.

Obama should name William Ayers as his chief of staff, with Rezko as Attorney General. He could announce the next day that he was just joking, but I’ll bet he could make a few of the Rabid Right stroke out in the meantime…

Ewwww. I think cabinet appointments like that would be helpful in that we would be able to identify – exactly – the moment that hope died.

How far off track are we when we have a office referred to as a ‘Czar’?

I’m old school. I’ll never say “Czar” when I can say it the way the gods intended: “Caesar”!

Hey, I just saw Obama on one of his ads last night here in NC. He promised to “shut down government programs that don’t work”, so the war on drugs should be the first one on his list then, right?

Who the f–k came up with the word “czar” for that or any of these positions? I’ve always hated that.

Oh, and I hate about 90% of that list of potential advisors/cabinet/etc.

    Excellent idea, SJE!

    **Memo to Senator Obama**

    RE: Drug Czar choice

Suggestion: Replace Chief Bratton with…NO ONE. The federal government should have no say in how states formulate drug policy.

Quick question – why would Bill Ayers not freak out libertarians? He advocates for the violent overthrow of our government, and the replacement of it with a communist dictatorship where 10% of the hardcore capitalists (that would be us) would have to be executed since we wouldn’t fit in. Historically, that’s about the norm for a communist takeover.

Why, again, are people acting like this guy is hated only by “the right”? Any freedom-loving person should hate everything that man stands for, and people here, of all places, should really be wondering about Obama’s continuing association with this man.

He promised to “shut down government programs that don’t work”

Yeah, the catch is that as a liberal, there’s no such thing as a government program that “doesn’t work”, there’s only programs that need more funding, and programs that need further regulation, or both.

Obama won’t have to advance the marxist agenda. Pelosi and Reid will do it for him.

The Democrats have floated the ideo of applying the fairness doctrine to the internet,

they’ve threatened in Congressional hearings to NATIONALIZE the oil industry.

We’re going to get NATIONAL health care.

We’ll get an assault weapons ban.

Obama will sign all of them.

And that’s really the choice, isn’t it? Bits of marxism without unprovoked war, vesrus… this weird, kleptocratic, aristocratic Corporate Socialism mixed with LOTS of (profitable) war. Hmmm. It’s like there needs to be another PARTY or something.

How is Obama’s association with Ayers “continuing?” When was the last time Obama “associated” with Ayers?

The Secretary of State should be a man with real diplomatic field experience, who knows the players and the countries where America’s biggest problems lie.
PETER GALBRAITH for Secretary of State.

“How is Obama’s association with Ayers “continuing?” When was the last time Obama “associated” with Ayers?”

Good question Les. From what I can tell, Obama’s association with Ayers is continuing only in the minds of rabid right-wingers. Ayers was on a board of some kind with Obama and lives in his neighborhood. I don’t think that makes Obama a Leninist. But, these are the same people who can’t tell a Stalinist (which Obama is not) from a reasonably moderate Left-Progressive w/ social democratic leanings (a more accurate portrayal of Obama’s leanings). But, as we have seen during campaign 2008, when you intentionally confuse different ideologies, you can scare people into supporting poor policies. Just ask Naomi Klein.

Given the fact that a President Obama will inherit the ruins of the American economy, which will require drastic cuts in governmental expenditures in order top meet the expectations of our (very nervous) creditors, to continue with a proven botch like the DrugWar would show just how empty his promises of ‘change’ actually are.

He’s an Establishmentarian, not an outsider, and expecting him to forfeit such a useful tool of governmental oppression is unrealistic…no matter how much it hurts his fellow African-Americans, millions of whom will not be able to vote for him, thanks to voter disenfranchisement courtesy of drug law offenses. Which led in no small part to the last 8 years and all that that entails.

    ‘Change’? Yeah, right.

There’s a interesting dichotomy coming January 20th if Barack Obama wins today:

He will be in the unique and solitary position of receiving Top Secret military and economic intelligence when he himself could NEVER pass a U.S. Government Security Clearance.

    Never.

Obama and Ayers have far more ties than being on the board of some foundation. You must have been living in a cave to not know about the video tape that the LA Times has of both of them at a party thrown by Arafat’s spokesman. Obama’s political career was launched at a party at Ayer’s house.

Look, Bill Ayers is an unrepentant domestic terrorist. He’s a real terrorist. They bombed things, tried to kill people (one bomb that was stopped was going to spray roofing nails into a restaurant at lunch time), and as late as 2001 he claimed that they hadn’t done enough.

Obama has continued to just happen to be at the same place as this guy. Polite company doesn’t show up at the same place as Ayers, and if something like Ayers crawls in while you’re at a party, you inform the host that one of you is leaving. Then do it. You also don’t have your political career launched at his house. Ayers is simply not the kind of person that a gentleman associates with at *any* level.

This is, ultimately, the issue with Jeremiah Wright. You don’t sit through the sermon when he starts screeching about whitey and all the evils that whitey’s doing to him (while he lives in a 10,000 sq ft mansion). You get up and leave, and don’t go back. I’ve been in churches like that on the right-wing side and that’s what we did.

Hey Radley, if Michael Chaney doesn’t stop posting his lies here, I’ll likely stop posting here. Reread his whole paragraph and count the number of lies- “Arafat’s spokesman” was a guy who McCain supported and was brought in as a neutral broker for Israeli-Palestinian peace talks. Ayers has expanded on what he meant by “didn’t do enough” (hint: he says it doesn’t have to do with more bombs but MC likely won’t take his word for it, although it seems to be good enough when it fits in with his prejudices).

I think by definition, the predictions have to be the unexciting picks, they are definately more likely than the out of nowhere picks, but I’m sure there will be some surprises.
