Palin didn’t sell Gov. Murkowski’s jet on eBay. She sold it to a campaign contributor, with a nice discount.
Chicken fried…bacon?
Scenes from a militarized America.
McCain campaign uses stock black people in convention video.
Does Guinness keep some sort of record for this?

The plane seems a non-issue to me, they tried to sell it on ebay with no serious bids. Recovering 80% of the purchase price of a depreciating asset seems like a pretty good, perhaps above market value, sale.
+1 to “z” about the plane. It sounds like the furthest thing from a sweetheart deal, to me.
Now for the real story: chicken fried bacon. I was telling my wife about that yesterday, and her expression belonged in the dictionary next to “ZOMFG!!111!!” Her response: “You know we have to try that, right?”
Wow, passing an 8-point buck just HAD to hurt! I bet that was worse than a kidney stone.
My problem z is this…FTA
“”You know what I enjoyed the most? She took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor, and sold it on eBay — and made a profit!” McCain declared in Wisconsin at a campaign stop Friday.”
They made the same assertion again at the RNC. Now they all have known damn good and well that the plane did NOT sell on eBay and did NOT make a profit. Which makes these claims not innocent oversights but outright lies.
Which is telling since it is still a “spunky” story that she even tried to sell it on eBay. The fact that it didn’t sell and she sold it to a business man to recoup as much cost as possible is no foul in my book. Even if he did contibute to her in 2006. That is a non issue.
It just establishes that they will gladly lie, just for the sake of lying. For something that is not even important. Of course, we already know they will lie when it really matters as well, but I think the ‘truth’ about the sale of the plane is valid news since they made the lie about the sale of the plane news before.
the plane isn’t an issue, but the spin is… McCain saying, “You know what I enjoyed the most? She took the luxury jet that was acquired by her predecessor, and sold it on eBay — and made a profit!” is a little different than ‘when that ridiculous jet wouldn’t sell on ebay, she took decisive action and unloaded it as quickly as possible…’
The truth would make a pretty good story, so why tweak it?
It just makes McCain look even more clueless.
Chicken fried bacon isn’t a new idea. As one of the commentors in the Dallas article noted, a restaurant in Snook, TX has been serving it for years. Here’s a story about it that aired in July 2005: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfbTO0GlONU …note the cream gravy. Mmmmm.
A friend opened a restaurant here in Chicago and promise chicken-fried bacon, but it never came to pass. However there is a bar down the street from me (Chinaski’s in Bucktown) that has complimentary cfb every Monday. Haven’t tried it yet.
Re: the shit story, Bono is the world record. Or at least he was until Stan Marsh’s dad took an even bigger shit.

The plane was used by and large to transport prisoners to a facility in Arizona, as Alaska lacks the facilities to manage it’s own criminal population. It was also an upgrade from a prop driven deathbucket made in the fifties with a two hundred mile range.
Looking at the faces and eyes of the riot police in said pictures makes me wonder if they were handing out ‘rip fuel’ to the officers. That is one seriously blank stare.
Despite her real and perceived failures, remember that Palin apparently fired the Police Commisioner for failing to cashier a rogue cop. Isn’t that a major issue on this site. Or do you prefer those who award medals to the puppy killers.
I don’t think anyone will fall for that line. Palin went after him because she had a score to settle. The fact he was a rogue cop is a coincidence, not the reason for her decision. Has she been trying to get rid of any other rogue cops? I certainly have seen no evidence of that.
“That luxury jet was over the top. I put it on eBay,” Palin said.”
She NEVER said that the plane was SOLD on E-bay.
Most aircraft depreciate. 80% for a used a/c is not a bad deal unless you want to post lots of comparable sales at a lesser discount to prove a lower market price was available.
Is the Agtitator becoming an outpost of the Huffington Post?
“Despite her real and perceived failures, remember that Palin apparently fired the Police Commisioner for failing to cashier a rogue cop.”
Read more into the story, and the rogue cop image sort of falls apart. The “tasered a kid” incident doesn’t turn out to be what it sounds like at first. The way they state it, it sounds like he just ran up to a kid and tasered him. But that’s not even slightly the case (from the Anchorage Daily News 7/27/08):
“One day — maybe a year or two before the investigation — Wooten showed his stepson his Taser. He had just been to Taser instructor school. Wooten told Sgt. Wall that the boy was fascinated and pleaded to be tased.
“So we went in our living room and I had him get down on his knees so he wouldn’t fall. And I taped the probes to him and turned the Taser on for like a second, turned it off. He thought that was the greatest thing in the world, wanted to do it again,” Wooten told the investigator. The boy flinched but nothing more, he said. The boy was about 11 at the time.
In his interview with troopers, the stepson said it hurt for about a second, according to Wall’s report. The boy said he wanted to be tased to show his cousin, Palin’s daughter Bristol, that he wasn’t a mama’s boy. The probe left a welt on his arm, he said. His mother was upstairs yelling at them not to do it, the boy said.”
Not really something an officer should be doing with that equipment, but not even close to this supposed “rogue, out of control cop” image that people keep kicking around, implying that he sadistically ran around tasering people.
“She NEVER said that the plane was SOLD on E-bay.”
That would be McShame who said that. He qualified it with ‘at a profit’ as well.
You’re pretty much where patriotism goes to die.

That cop in the “scenes from a militarized America” pic link has the same petrified expression on his face as the opposing receiver in the WaterBoy movie when the Mud Dogs kicker identifies the most gutless opponent and tells himself, “Theres my bitch.”
Palin’s original statement was intended to mislead, but wasn’t that serious. McCain’s later use of the story with modification is outright dishonest.
I think a more important note is in the GOP’s use of the song “Barracuda” at the convention. First they did it without obtaining permission, and then they used again over the express request of the copyright owner NOT to use it. This indicates to me a disdain for property rights. It seems to me the GOP is only concerned about property rights when it is their property.
That jet was on ebay for a long time. It was in bad shape and the first offer she got she sold it. It was sold for more than it was worth. I’m an avionics tech and she got a good deal on the jet.
But Craig, she said it was an over-the-top luxury jet and that’s why she sold it.
McCain said she sold it at a profit. Not for more than it was worth: for a profit.
When did they lie: when Palin said it was over-the-top luxury or when McCain said she sold it at a profit?
I don’t care what condition that stupid jet was in - either or possibly both of them said things that, it turned out, were demonstrably untrue.
As a parser of statements in English, you’re a great avionics tech, Craig.
Also: I had some of that chicken-fried bacon in Snook, TX. It was kinda awful. It melted away as soon as it went into my mouth and left behind a quantity of grease & breading.
I actually took pictures of another treat (not in Snook, still in TX): a BLT with chicken-fried bacon. We wanted to set up a (figurative) before & after shot of the victim’s life expectancy, too…
That cop also threatened to kill her sister’s father(that would also be Sara’s father) if she filed for divorce, in front of witnesses. Think you’re letting your Bush hatred cloud your vision.
no, i’d say that hassling palin over the precise method she employed to sell the state jet is the “stupidest issue of the campaign”, actually.
I’m wondering if all the people who feign outrage that Palin would claim to “put a jet on eBay” (um, she did) have the same outrage about Obama claiming his uncle liberated Auschwitz.
Does it matter if it sold privately after being on ebay? No. Does it matter that it was really Ohrdruf? No.
I think the false hope that Obama is somehow libertarian is clouding views here. Palin’s 9/7/07 proclamation supporting jury nullification is far more libertarian than anything Obama has ever done.
The gloves that two of the Gestapo Agents are wearing appear to be a modern version of brass nuckles.
Look at the nuckle area of the gloves…
The better to BEAT you with, my dear.
Funny how you all object to “spin” from the repubs but whoppers from the dems get a pass from you all. Give the dems a pass if you want, its a free country, but the dems are no more friends to your libertarian ideals than are the repubs.
Its the dems who want to ban guns.
Its the dems/Clinton who have all but banned smoking.
The dems push just as hard for the militarization of the police as do the repubs. (Maryland, where Berwyn Heights is, is as blue a state as you can find). Shall I go on?
Yet you always give the dems a pass, implying by your silence that they are paragons of truth whose motivations are as pure as the wind driven snow. Go ahead and do that if you want, in so doing you are just cancelling yourselves out.
Obama’s uncle was present at the liberation of Buchenwald. Obama wasn’t trying to mislead anyone. The stories of the plane show that the McCain ticket is trying to mislead people.
#20 - Selling it at that price gained net value in excess of opportunity costs, and as such was an economic profit. An accountant’s profit may be implied, but it was not explicitly stated.
Of course, that’s a banal and pigheaded defence of the comment. But since this is a banal and pigheaded issue in the first place…
Chicken fried bacon? Gotta try that at least once.
Just let me finish this here pastrami burrito….
Seriously. I’ve had one. It’s not a meal; it’s a religious experience.
