OMG! Gimmick mini-flags in the trash bin. Those fiends!
What next? “Denver Couple finds Mom and Apple Pie Crucified on Front Lawn!”
Cue flag desecration amendment proposal in 10…9…8…
I’m glad that the authors of that blog have seen fit to appropriately title their work such that nothing else needs be said about it.
If the law is on your side, pound the law. If the facts are on your side, pound the facts. If you’ve got neither, pound the table.
Even if it’s a non-issue based on the Republicans’ flagolatry, it’s a violation of the Democrats’ “Green convention” shtik.
+1 for “flagolatry,” -1 for suggesting any difference between the parties.
Actually as others have pointed out, there is a difference.
One is left wing socialism, the other is right wing socialism.
Still socialism, but the excuses are different ;)
It is pretty funny, given the emphasis and effort the democrats put in to looking “green”.
It’s only the stupidest issue of the campaign up to this point. There’s still 2 months left, plus all of the recriminations after election day.
The issue is rubbish. (Yeah, sorry!)
It surprises me that Obama’s people said anything about it? Why should they? This is a case where responding turns a nothing story into a slightly more than nothing story. Being politicians and campaigners, these people can’t say anything without trying to make themselves look good or the other guy look bad and, in doing so, they manage to say something that doesn’t look quite believable (the “the flags weren’t going to be trash; they were packaged for return” spin) and get in trouble for lying or covering up. It would have been trivial to say, “Sen. Obama’s supporters were proud to hold American flags at the convention and the overwhelming majority of the flags are likely now gracing their homes. Though it’s unfortunate that some small fraction of the flags may have been treated improperly, neither the Senator nor the DNC had any role in that.”
Anyway, I could care less. I’m not one for symbolic gestures and, even then, I know that, as a symbol, The Flag represents ideals that can’t be tarnished by people not knowing the details of the “Flag Code” or their inadvertent mistreatment of physical flags.
And, BTW, I would consider it ironic if there were actual American laws designating the proper means of flags disposal and penalizing the failure to use those means. Particularly at the federal level, such bathos would represent “unclear on the concept” politics at its most ludicrous.
I think it is an issue for one reason:
The Democrats should have been able to foresee that several trash bags of American flags – of whatever size – thrown away after their convention would be a public relations problem. I don’t quite know what they should have done about it …. stuff them in a closet in the local Democrat HQ until December? …. but it still shows lack of foresight. Not a good thing in a Candidate or a Party.
Not the crippling lack of foresight that Kerry showed in the 2004 race by not holding a press conference early on and saying something like “When I got back from Vietnam I was a very angry young man and did some things that were less than prudent.”, but then Obama hasn’t done anything as showy as throwing somebody’ medals on the White House lawn either.
The Democrats have had the big names in the Media covering them for too long. It has made them careless, which they apparently can’t get away with anymore. If they want to win elections, that is a problem they have to address, soonest. The country needs two viable Parties, minimum.

“Actually as others have pointed out, there is a difference.”
A distinction without a difference.
why is democrat disrespect/abuse of the flag a stupid issue?
observation teaches us that a person’s character is most revealed in his/her small, thoughtless, unrehearsed gestures. it’s the little things that reveal what’s under the mask, is it not? disposal or disposition of american flags have their own traditional/statutory rules/traditions/procedures, and the democrats ignored them. does that not tell us something about how democrats view the flag in the hearts? (would they have been likely to show such disrespect to the flag of a foreign nation? i doubt it…)
why is pointing out democrat flag abuse “stupid”, but it’s evidently a way cool thing (as demonstrated in the **very next post**) to bust palin’s chops for ‘puffing’ or exaggerating her role in getting rid of alaska’s state jet?
Trying to play the convention as Green was a stupid idea from the start. The only way to green the convention would be to cancel it altogether. Everything about the party conventions was a complete waste of time money and resources.
a few posiblities:
1) this is complete bullshit contrived by an employee at fox news
2)they were droped and left behind by some of the children at the convention
3) little flags are nothing more that a fucking party favor! get over it!
