More Alaska Photo Blogging
Monday, September 1st, 2008Photos today are from in and around Girdwood, a little town outside of Anchorage known mostly for its skiing. Lots of people recommended we eat at the Double Musky, a pretty renowned restaurant known for its Cajun food. Unfortunately, it was booked for a private event. So we ate at a place called Chair 5, a divey little bar with some terrific food. I had a delicious elk burger.
The first few photos below are from the town of Girdwood itself. It’s a tiny place, generally geared toward supporting the Alyeska Ski Resort. We dropped our clothes off at a laundrymat in town and where surprised to find that the guy who owned the place wasn’t around. Instead, he’d left the cash register open, with a note asking that people leave the appropriate amount of money for whatever service they’d received.
The next set of photos shows a couple of people paragliding off Mt. Alyeska. Looked exhilarating, but was a little spendy (as people are prone to say in Alaska) for us to try. The final series of wildlife photos are from the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a wonderful little park south of Girdwood on the Seward highway where they rehabilitate injurred animals, raise orphaned animals, and are trying to breed bison back into the Alaskan ecosystem. The Agitatrix and I plan to become members.
