John Stagliano on Reason TV

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Stagliano’s facing what would practically be a life sentence in federal prison for producing movies made by consensual adults, starring consensual adults, and intended for purchase by consensual adults.

Good thing the feds got the “terrorism” think licked, eh?

Sorry, this is way off topic but I couldn’t find an e-mail address for you and I know you write alot about the militarization of the police.

I think this is way overboard.

I think Stagliano’s a pretty easy guy for a jury to be sympathetic to vs. Larry Flint. He seems like a good front man for these issues.

Brass, there’s a very clear “Email Radley Balko” in the Site Features on the left.

    heh heh, you said “licked”

Seriously though, if we’re going to inevitably have an Obama presidency at least one of the positives will be that they’ll be like the Clinton admin and stop with all these silly obscenity prosecutions.

This reminds me, whatever happened to that prosecution of the woman for obscenity for her written stories that our good friend Ms. Mary Beth Buchanan was pursuing?

Minor quibble: midway through, reference to Howard Roark actually should have been to John Galt, granting each one was the subject of a courtroom soliloquy.

Money moment: “We are a nation of laws, not men!”

    ROTFFLMFAO!

Laws are self-interpreting? Who else but men can interpret laws?

    Why this guy?

    Why not?

Have to start defending free speech somewhere.

Sorry, I meant why are they going after him specifically? Does he have some kind of old “beef” with the gov.? I’m not familiar with his work or his site, but there are plenty of sites where they don’t even ask for verification of age. My only thought was that once one goes down the rest will step in line, but given the internet community and the technology involved, I don’t really see that happening.

As a former fan of his works, I suspect it’s because “our” government has an aversion to big-butt anal.

Hi, and a Happy New Year from the U.K……. are there any results from the Trial yet ?Personally ,I view John’s work as Art and certainly more stimulating than the conceptual rubbish that is main-stream and overly rewarded on this side of the Atlantic. If he loses this case it will be a sad day for America and the great democracy .
