Hilarity ensues
I know nothing of this governor…anyone have any insight?
Hmm…Radley goes to Alaska….Alaskan governor (might/is) Veep candidate…hmmmm…The Agitator bump?
When I saw the headline “McCain picks Palin as VP” I couldn’t match up the picture with the name because I had never heard of her before. My initial reaction was “Great!! With a ex-Monty Python guy in office, the country may be saved!” I’m kind of disappointed now.
any thoughts on Obama’s speech last night?
She is hot. Reminds me a little of Tina Fey.
She’s been working to root out corruption in the Republican party in Alaska (think Don Young and Ted Stevens) and is anti-pork. If she and McCain win, we may see pork coming under even more heat nationally. Could be interesting.
It struck me that this election will be historic because we’re either going to have the first black president or the first female vp.
He’s tapped Cleese as head of the Department of Funny Walks.
She was so busy rooting out the corruption she rooted out her own suspect firing of personnel.
Very interesting pick.
I hope you got the sense of humor with that url title…
(If you did already then I’m a little slow)

This post provides a bunch of background on her.
Less than two years as a governor and now she could be one 72 year old, cancer surviving, senile heartbeat away from the most powerful office in the land.
Epic.
I am interested in the fact that she admits to smoking marijuana and hastens to add that it was legal in Alaska while illegal Federally.
Question for McCain: Does he believe she should have her house raided and put in jail by the DEA even though pot use was legal in Alaska at the time? If not, what makes her different than medical marijuana dispensers, growers, and users in California?
Now that we have had two presidents with past drug use and now a PUSA and VPUSA who have admitted to drug use, anyone else think we might get a grown up, serious conversation about pot and the war on drugs?
Yeah, me neither.
You don’t even have to ask this question. Why? Because we already know that McCain believes that drug laws only apply to common people with the way his wife’s drug conviction was handled.
And its Silly Walks, Ben, not funny LOL
Mikestermike,
You’re thinking of the Ministry of Silly Walks in Britain, Ben is referring to the shadowy Dept. of Funny Walks within the DHS.
Pure politics. If there weren’t a bunch of disaffected hillary supporters out there on the fence everyone knows Palin would never have seen the slightest consideration. Consider, all we have heard from mccain is that experience matters and now he picks a potential future president with virtually none? Its clear this a purely political pick whose only purpose is november.
Very cynical indeed.
Damn it! So close, yet so far.
“Less than two years as a governor and now she could be one 72 year old, cancer surviving, senile heartbeat away from the most powerful office in the land.”
Sounds marginally better than the alternative (Obama). But I’m still not sold. I’m still going to write in “Ted Nugent” on my ballot.
So bobzbob, what your saying is that McCain brought POLITICS into his selection of a VP candidate?
Experience? When there are three sitting senators involved in the race?
The crazy thing is that with two years as governor and two terms as mayor, she has more experience as a government chief executive (which is what counts) than Obama, Biden and McCain combined!
I’m surprised so few people have heard of her. In the Ron Paul community, there was a lot of serious talk about her as a running mate.
Small government, lower taxes, anti-corruption whistleblower (even within her own party), MILF-tastic…. what’s not to love?
Eric Idle for Secretary of Defense
Terry Gillliam for Head of Homeland Security
Terry Jones for President of the Smithsonian
and last but not least
Graham Chapman for Secretary of Defense
“Go to Death Con One!”
From what I’ve been able to find out about her today, (never heard of her before) I like her better than I do McCain.
Sure, VP selections are about politics, but they shouldn’t be SOLELY about politics. There is no way the mccain campaign could consider her to be qualified to be president, but she will be if elected and mccain dies. That means they have placed political interest above the interests of the american people. Its pretty much the standard MO for republicans these days. Biden on the other hand is at least as well qualified as either candidate, there was probably a political aspect to his selection but they did with someone qualified in the event of the worst case scenario.
I dunno. From where I’m sitting there’s a whole lot more of the widely touted “HopeChange” in the selection of an “inexperienced” Veep running mate with a demonstrated ability to piss off her own party than there is in the selection of an entrenched 30+ year career politician Veep running mate who, as a matter of course, toes his party’s line.
I’m surprised so few have heard of her. Maybe that’s just a sign of the Agitator’s every growing reach. What I mean is I’m sure she’s not well known among most people, but I’ve read and heard a lot about her in libertarian and libertarian leaning blogs/forums/comments for at least 2 years now. She was also one of the names I heard a lot of deluded Ron Paul supporters suggest as a good pick as HIS VP.
Certain “libertarians” like to refer to her as a “libertarian Republican.” Though personally I think they just like that she resembles an “actress” from one of those internet “reality porn” sites that feature MILFS and teachers. If you are one of the 99% of men that look at internet porn, you know what I’m talking about.
It seems her main political asset is her gender. And the only policy positions anyone talks about are anti-gay and anti-abortion stances. So if she is anything close to “libertarian” she is running as a social-con. She may be “good” on small government spending issues, but that’s about it.
Which, admittedly, is more than can be said about any of the other clowns on the major tickets.
Who would you want answering the phone at 3am. Biden or Palin?
From a policy point of view there is no hope/change in Palin. She is a bush policy supporter all the way. Do you think she will end torture? Extraordinary rendition? How about the practice of overruling science with theology? No change here.
C’mon, you’ve got no idea if this is true. Fame is not a qualification, so just because you’d never heard of her before today doesn’t mean she wouldn’t make a good President.
“The crazy thing is that with two years as governor and two terms as mayor, she has more experience as a government chief executive (which is what counts) than Obama, Biden and McCain combined!
Experience as a government chief exec didn’t seem to do Bush much good. Heck, if the POTUS is really supposed to do as little as most libertarians seem to believe, experience would probably be a minus.
The crazy thing is that with two years as governor and two terms as mayor, she has more experience as a government chief executive (which is what counts) than Obama, Biden and McCain combined!
There were a couple current/former governors in each party’s primary, no? Doesn’t seem like people really care a whole lot about that sort of experience.
Anyway, I think the notion that she’s going to push the party in a libertarian direction is pretty daft. I mean, come on–her role as VP and in this campaign is to backstop McCain.
After her six years as mayor of Wasilla, AK (pop ~8,000) she left the town with an additional 20 million dollars in debt for “improvements”. That’s in the neighborhood of $2,500 worth of debt per resident. I don’t see a lot of libertarianess there.
VPILF indeed. Be careful what you wish for. A million bucks says she’s the one who does the fucking.
Don’t bend over to pick up the soap.
Now for the bad news: Palin is a creationist enviro-weenie.
Look it up.
That is a ludicrous sentence. My own personal policy on “hope/change” is that I don’t like them. I’m a “despair/status quo” guy, I guess.
What’s an enviro-weenie?
