While I’m Gone

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I have a few more posts I’m hoping to get up before leaving for Alaska tomorrow afternoon.

But while I’m gone, I’ve lined up a roster of guest bloggers to keep you entertained. I’ll drop in from time to time–but mostly I hope to be eating salmon and snapping photos of baby moose. But you’re in good hands with these folks. And they’ll probably manage to keep you entertained without depressing the hell out of you, as I often do.

I’ll let them introduce themselves at more length tomorrow. But here’s a quick rundown:

Ed Brayton. Ed runs the terrific blog Dispatches From the Culture Wars, where he combats idiocy from both sides of the political spectrum. He’s a poker buff, a champion of the sciences, and I don’t think he’d object if I described him as a left-libertarian. Ed also does plenty of original reporting on his blog, which wins him huge points i my book.

Tim Lee. Tim’s an adjunct scholar with Cato, and is fast becoming a star analyst on tech, intellectual property, and privacy issues. He blogs at Sinners in the Hands of an Angry Blog and the Tech Liberation Front.

Jacob Grier. Jacob’s an old friend who just left D.C. for new adventures. He’s a mixologist (read: fancy bartender), a barista, an amateur magician, and has done some writing and communications work for libertarian organizations around town. He blogs at JacobGrier.com, and just wrote a terrific piece for reason on the raw milk movement. He’s also the guy who introduced me (and half of D.C.) to the glories of the Miracle Fruit.

Ryan Grim. Ryan’s a reporter for the Politico, a regular contributor to Slate and a former reporter for the Washington City Paper. He’s working on a book on the history of illicit drug use in America, and has agreed to post excerpts of the book on this site to get your comments and feedback.

Mary Q. Contrarian. Mary is obviously a pseudonym. Because this guest blogger would prefer to remain anonymous, I’ll just introduce her by saying she’s smart, perceptive, and has a wicked Tina Fey-ish sense of humor.

I’ll give my guest bloggers the option of turning comments on or off for their posts. If they’re on, please feel free to interact, challenge, and respond to them. Just be courteous, as they’re doing me a favor.

If they turn comments off, I’m gonna have to slit my wrists.

Don’t do it Dave! There will be plenty of fresh outrages to sound off on when Radley gets back. Maybe you could go stir up some shit at Daily Kos to relieve the tension.

Hope you’ll get to Glacier Bay–we went this time of year in 2006 and twas gorgeous. Also Skagway and Juneau. No mooses or bears, but a few bald eagles and some amazing mountains and glaciers. And no skeeters!

“….without depressing the hell out of you, as I often do.” Exactly. I mean, keep it up, of course. But, still. Damn.

I am in Seattle visiting grandson, oliver and family. The sun is shining- I left the Northeast in rain and understand it has remained that way. Sumthin’ is terribly wrong when New England summers have rain from July 2 on through August- two tornadoes and flooding never seen before. Anyone seen Noah?
