For these guys (cops) it's see a dog, shoot a dog. "Puppycide" is flip and disrespectful to animals who are consistently better-behaved and ethical than police. Come to think of it, that applies to every animal except the pig.

Having a little dissonance here, boss. I'm checking out the links to (yet more) police brutality and the ad on the sidebar is for an online Criminal Justice program.

Wait... now that I think about it, our "justice" system *is* criminal. It makes perfect sense to see that ad here!

Not surprising. I work in corporate security and as such, have a close relationship to the local cops. There are a few SWAT Nazi types that shoot regularly and are very proficient with their weapons but they are few and far between. Our small contingent of armed officers has a much higher standard for training and qualification that the local cops but then again, we don’t have qualified immunity either.

If I read the old “they put their lives on the line every day” bullshit one more time, I’m going to run screaming through the streets. Read some statistics. They are readily available on the intertubes.

While you’re reading, check into some firearms training info too. Cops are not even close to being “the best shots of anyone”. That kind of proficiency takes way more time and effort than would be cost effective for cops. Even with that kind of proficiency, one shot stops are a very iffy proposition.

This might be a stupid comparison, but Stephen King wrote a series called The Dark Tower about a cowboy-knight, Roland who was the "last gunslinger."

In one of the books, Roland visits our world for a short time. He runs into a couple of our "gunslingers" (cops) and makes the comment that they are "fat, lazy and have forgotten the face of their fathers." This basically sums up my feelings for most cops.

Don't get me wrong, cops put their ass on the line every day, and I respect them for it, but they knew what they were getting into when going into the Academy. They should be the best shot of anyone around. They get paid to carry and use, if necessary, guns. They should be trained to take one shot, and make it count even in the most stressful situations. That's what they get paid to do. Not shoot somebody's dog because they feel threatened.

If you're a cop and don't feel threatened every day, you're doing it wrong. If you can't keep your cool and perform at your best in a situation where most people would flee for their lives, maybe you should not be a cop.

Basically cops should be the last to shoot and the last to run away. Tall order, I know, but that's how I feel.

From the comments section:

<i>It`s too bad that people that are involved with drugs and other illegal activities drag these great dogs down into the gutter with them.</i>

What illegal activities? No drugs found. There are way too many sheep in this country.

"The subsequent search of the home reveald what police called items "consistent with the packaging of drugs" but no illegal substances."

And this is how they'll get away with it - because they found some fucking sandwich baggies that are in EVERY AMERICAN HOUSEHOLD.

And read (all 2) of the comments below. One is barely readable due to horrible language skills, and the other one states:

"It`s too bad that people that are involved with drugs and other illegal activities drag these great dogs down into the gutter with them.

I understand from another story that this dog was muzzled when shot.
To the authorities, please place a ban on dog ownership(ANY DOG) after 1 Drug or DogFighting(Involved or attending) conviction.
They`ve lost the privilege of owning a dog.
No excuses.
The Dogs aren`t choosing the lifestyle but they`re certainly paying the price for it.
Pit Bulls should be working with the Police to detect Narcotics as seen here.
http://www.lawdogsusa.org/lawdogs.html
They are not the enemy and should not be portrayed as such."

What does this tool not understand about "there were no drugs found in the home"????

If I didn't have to register to do so, I would leave this tool a piece of my mind.

pissed.

Cheapening the mental illness defense.
Being a amoral Sociopath = mental illness
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/25/nyregion/25rape.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
"Mr. Williams’s lawyer, Arnold J. Levine, sought a lesser sentence because, he said, his client suffered from severe mental illness. He said that Mr. Williams had not spoken with him in a coherent way for a year and seemed unable to comprehend why he was in court or what he was being sentenced for.

“I don’t think he has any clue what’s going on,” Mr. Levine said after the sentencing, adding that he planned to appeal."
