I was waiting for the Cindy McCain jab. Well done. That’s the kind of thing that will make the GOP apologists’ heads spin.
Is it the government’s job to make us better people? If so, by whose definition of “better?”
Radley Balko’s, of course…….what a silly question……
Excellent questiions, I have suggested friends and foe read them.
do we get obama questions next week? maybe, follow those up with some Ron Paul questions!
good job.
jwh! Still no desire to admit you were wrong about innocent men in Guantanamo? I have to say, it’s pretty sad.

No. Radley Balko doesn’t think it’s the government’s job to make us better people at all–no matter who is defining “better.”
Damn good questions. And I’ll bet money he ducks them or at best issues weasel-worded answers. I like John McCain, I respec this service, but I don’t believe half of what he says.
After reading that I am not voting for McCain even more than before.
Unfortunate that the only way these questions will be asked is in a FoxNews column.
Certainly McCain will never be asked them in a face-to-face interview.
2 thoughts – 1) It’d be nice to find out which sites link to this, so folks can give them a hard time if they don’t link to the Obama one (and vice versa)
2) I think everybody would be entertained by the Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader versions.
The Cynthia McKinney question could simply be
WTF!?!?!?!
Since the McCain camp is not likely to respond, I’ll handle the last question for them.
“Radley, My wife is not that different from millions of other white drug abusers who get away with it!”
I realize that this comment adds zero value, but I can’t resist. There’s a John McCain for Prez ad on the right side of my screen right now. “Join Our Team”, it says. Very funny.
Seriously though, good questions.
I would respectfully suggest that people serving in the uniformed services of this nation are NOT simply “people who spend their lives on the taxpayer dole as politicians and government employees”. I would also offer the opinion that yes, a career of public service such as a military career IS more noble and virtuous than trying to turn a profit.
When an employer creates jobs, they do not do so with the intent of creating jobs for anyone. Crating jobs is a necessary step for performing the tasks necessary for selling goods or services. The jobs themselves are merely the byproduct of the pursuit of wealth. And neither of these is a bad thing. Everyone should be able to pursue wealth and industry.
But let’s not kid ourselves into believing that running a business is on par from a civic stand point with serving and protecting our nation. However, I would offer the caveat that not all, or perhaps suprisingly few, politicians are out to serve and protect their nation.
If the Iraqis ask us to leave, shouldnt we leave?
Hasnt Al Malaki recently asked for a US troop exit date?
Does the president’s stance reqarding Geneva inapplicability, the position of using “enhanced treatment” of detainees which includes waterboarding (for which the US has brought warcrimes charges) and which brought outcomes like Abu Ghraib, and the creation of 4 million iraqi refugees foster generations of radicalism?
Does propping up an Iran-friendly government in Iraq undermine your position and the position of the US government in trying to limit Iran’s sway in the region?
No disrespect Radley, but I don’t think either candidate will answer your questions, nor will any pundit pick them up and do it for you.
Wish they would though, those are qood questions. Anxiously waiting see what your questions for Obama are.
btw, as much as I dislike the idea of voting for McCain, the idea of Obama as President scares the hell out of me.
Just ask Dick Cheney how profitable a lifetime of public service can be.
Would love to see members of the public get together small groups to show up at meet the candidate events, and each ask McCain one of these questions on video. Would love to see the same thing for Obama when Mr. Balko offer’s up questions for him as well.
Why isn’t this what debate questions are like?
Zeb:
Because we need to address the real issues – gay marriage, abortion, flag burning and bailing out the banks.

Since they’re both poor candidates, maybe you should consider not voting for either of them. There are lots of choices out there.
Sean Frazier quoth: But let’s not kid ourselves into believing that running a business is on par from a civic stand point with serving and protecting our nation.
No kidding. Running a business is far superior, from a civic stand point, than “serving” one’s country by joining the military.
Questions that will never be answered for a Fox News favorite son.
I’m sure that the Obama questions will be consistent. Radley, maybe you can post those questions over at MSNBC, to be fair.
I’m sorry that John was shot down and was a POW for five years, but that doesn’t at all make him a better candidate for pres than someone who was a kid during the Vietnam era. There were many of us who went to Vietnam (including myself) and some never came back. John came back. Luck of the draw. That’s all.
