Elected officials and government employees are rapidly becoming the new aristocracy. They order the serfs to sacrifice while they do not. They are not subject to the same laws that the serfs are. The serfs no longer own their property but pay rent to their lords. Their work and income are confiscated in order to keep their lords in the style in which they have become accustomed. The benevolent masters in return run their lives, keep them safe and dispense their justice and guidance – in other words rule them.

What’s ostentatious about it at all? Sounds a lot like my last meal at a sushi restaurant.

The article’s author seems to hate wealth to begin with; if the leaders had ordered takeout from McDonalds, the headline would be “World Leaders Mock Meals Eaten By Poor”.

In fairness, I wouldn’t recognize half that stuff as food if I met it in a dark alley. Rich people eat garbage sometimes; showing off their tolerance for something like sea urchin is a status symbol.
