Update on the Ricks Forfeiture Case

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

The Cleveland New Times has an update on the Luther Ricks case, which I’ve covered here a couple of times. The Ricks are being represented by Agitator pal Bryan Westhoff. According to the article the federal government has 30 days to decide whether it wants to continue with its efforts to take the couple’s savings.

Let’s hope they make the right decision.

UPDATE: Link fixed.

    From the article:

“It’s a terrible law,” Gamso says. “The way the law works essentially is, you’ve got to prove the government is wrong. I don’t know how to put this other than to say that that’s fundamentally un-American. The idea is that somehow we’re going to assume you’re guilty because the government says so.”

He should get with the times. The government is *always* right. And accusations always means you’re guilty of something. Right?

“We don’t take a car from somebody when they’re caught speeding,” Westhoff says.

Dammit Westhoff! Don’t give them ideas! They’ll start that soon enough.
