Should anyone surprised that a publication called 'Wired' advocated drug use?

Not seeing a lot of steam coming out of the Gray Lady's ears. More like a case of mild agitation. Now if Gina Kaluta or Abe Rosenthal had written it...ah, then you would have seen copious amounts of bile flowing across the page. This, by constrast, is a mere burp.

New York Times Aghast that Wired Would Talk Honestly About Drug Use Wednesday, June 11th, 2008 10 Zen Monkeys has the details on a dust-up between the Gray Lady and Wired magazine in which the former got a case of the vapors over a short piece in the latter that honestly discussed the benefits and drawbacks of "brain power" drugs like nicotine, Adderall, caffeine, cocaine, and methamphetamine. I hope Wired has learned a lesson, here. Apparently, anything short of parroting ONDCP talking points about illicit drugs and off-label use of prescription drugs is irresponsible journalism. There’s no room for nuance, truth, or honesty here. Only scorn and moral absolutism. [...]

How many coffee cups will we find in the NYT newsroom? Maybe Wired should do an article on that.

How much of a problem is giving Adderall to kids is, exactly?
A lot of the anti-phrama crowd seems to think the pill is responsible for turning kids into brain-dead zombies or something, which to me comes of as hysteria and hyperbole.

The NYT article reads fair enough to me. They are only asking a question. They also published the disclaimers that 'Wired' used.
Is this a slow news day? Don't see the agitation here.

Wired is one of the subscriptions I kept when I recently started paring my subscriptions down. They're generally very objective in a way few large media outlets are.

For the record. Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the worst about blindly repeating propaganda disguised as "science." It makes me angry that he has a national voice and such a likeable demeanor while he's repeating misinformation.

Friggin' New York Times. They sided with The Church against Copernicus and Galileo, too. They would still claim the earth is flat if it would sell more papers.
