…David Boaz notes that the best presidential candidate the GOP has nominated in a generation was actually fictionally, and actually created by a bunch of left-wing television writers.

My pick for the best possible Republican nominee would be Dick Armey.

….I should had noted “like on the West Wing.” Because without that note, it kind of sound horrible.

A live debate held twice for the benefit of a sitcom audience? Amazing that that ever happened. And yes, that actor truly did articulate libertarian principles far better than any real Republican.

One thing Boaz got wrong, Vinick was going to win the West Wing until John Spencer died. After that, the writers wanted to honor his memory by having his fictional running mate win.

Yes, Vinick is the sort of guy I’d drop everything to go work for. Give me a real candidate that sounds like him, and I’m there. Hell, get Alan Alda to run and I’d work for him, as long as he could stay on script.

Also, DaveT, the West Wing was hardly a “sitcom”. It was one of the most highbrow shows on TV – political drama getting a live debate isn’t exactly unbelievable.
