Sunday Evening Dog Blogging

Several months ago, I saw a battery-operated toy puppy on sale at Target for $15. Seemed like a bargain for the opportunity to mess with the minds of my own dogs. Here’s how it went down:

What wonderful dogs you have, Radley. We had a good chuckle over the vid…

I had a similar little robot skunk that my cat *hated*. I think the problems dogs and cats have with these toys is that they move like animals but smell like radios.

    You sick fuck.
Now I have to spend $15 more to mess with my dogs minds.
    Laser lights are bad enough.

Just hearing that thing sent my pugs into hysterics.

I wonder if the dogs’ reaction is because they are experiencing their version of the uncanny valley.

I’d guess a good deal of it has to do with the pitch involved in that “barking”.

My sister had something like that when she was little. We set it up to go down the hall once and as it passed the bathroom, our cat leaped out, clawed, tackled and bit it and jumped back into the bathroom.

If only we’d had Youtube in the early ’90s.

one of my dogs look just like yours and would act exactly as yours did! Big hunky scared dog! If the stuffed animals don’t make noise, the dogs pounce on the stuffed toys and rip them to shreds. ;)

Looks like a dog, sounds like a parakeet. I’m freaked out too.

Isabella looks adorable – I love when she just pops her head into the doorway. I imagine our viszla would respond the same way.

Poor Harper just couldn’t handle it at all, eh? Funny that she chose to bark from a safe, “you can’t see me” distance.
