A Little Self-Promotion

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

My investigative piece on Dr. Hayne is a finalist for an L.A. Press Club award for news/investigative reporting feature in a magazine. My reason colleague Kerry Howley is also nominated for her terrific piece, “Who Owns Your Body Parts?” In fact, reason dominates the category, with three of the five finalists. The other is Maia Szalavitz’s also-excellent piece on teen “boot camp” drug rehab programs.

All in all, reason did very well, with 16 total finalist nominations.

All great pieces. I’d hate to be on the jury that has to choose a single winner.

But let’s face it, you nailed that guy good, Radley. And it was very important that someone did. So congrats!

As much as I love your writing, Radley, if I could only choose one I’d have to go with Maia’s piece on boot camps. I’ve known about the worms under that rock for 15 years, and I’m glad they’re finally getting exposed. But if you don’t mind sharing, I’ll vote for both of you.

You earned it Radley, the work you’ve done on Hayne has been outstanding, as well as important.

    Congratulations!
