Never hear about MY demographic: Over 60 white male, veteran, born in the former Confederacy, who was so happy to see the US so close to electing a black president that when I voted for Brother O'Bama I had a frog in my throat and almost got tears in my eyes. I remember the first black kids I ever went to school with. I remember Gov Wallace when he was a major news personality. Now this. What a great country!! Far better country than government!!

I like what the first commenter on the blog posted. If Obama isn't supposed to win the votes of HARDWORKING white people, those who voted for him in those states must be LAZY white people, lol.

Sooooo, is this conventional wisdome saying that race is really not an issue? If that's the case, I'd like to see issues like affirmative action taken off of the legal books, permanently.

Bob, you are thinking of Truman vs Dewey.

Bob - true, but "the conventional wisdom" that I've been seeing was specifically about white voter behavior in the primaries, and therefore about Democrats.

I do not konw if Obama will win or lose in the Genreal Election (obviously) this list is somewhat misleading as it who won the Democratic Party Primary and is not inclusive of all persons in the state. I reside in Massachusetts and even in this very blue state the entire number of people who voted in the democratic primary was a small portion of the overall voters.
I do not remember which election it was (I think is was FDR's first presidential win) but the Republican candidate trounced FDR in the telephone polls. Problem was that at that time only the very wealthy had phones and they were predominantly Republican.
Moral of the story, be careful of your sample size demographics.
