Very clever editing en route to a rickrolling.
Man jailed for six months because his daughter failed to get her GED.
Time says, “Invade Burma? Why the hell not!” And John McCain smiles, devilishly.
Your childhood nightmares come to life.
Lightning + volcanoes + sharks = Awesome. Okay. There are no sharks. But still pretty cool.
I was beginning to think all this talk about Obama being different on civil liberties and criminal justice issues was . . . well, just all talk. But it looks like he did push a bill through in Illinois requiring police to videotape all interrogations. That’s a pretty significant reform. California tried to require it early this year but came up short, thanks to the Governator’s veto pen.

I like the closing line of the Time article, “…give war a chance.”
Maybe after the police start video taping interrogations, we can get them to start video taping beatings. Muahahahaha! Just kidding. I know the cops don’t really beat people. They subdue them.
Even after graduating from high school, going on to college followed by law school, and then becoming a judge, one can still be dumber than someone who can’t get a GED. It’s people like that moron who make us average people so friggin’ cocky.
The most disturbing sentence in the article on Obama:
“There were death penalty abolitionists, some of whom worried that Obama’s bill, by preventing the execution of innocents, would deprive them of their best argument.”
I hope this is just hyperbole.
Although, given Radley’s documentation of “Better dead than high” people, I guess it’s not too hard to believe.
That was a good article on Obama by Peters. I still don’t see myself voting for the guy come election time because I disagree with too much of his policy, but if Obama does win the election (and I think the odds favor him if he makes it through the primary) I believe that there’s a decent chance he could be swayed by good economic policy arguments and break with his party’s socialist leanings. He appears willing to seriously listen to the other side’s concerns and make compromises that both parties can live with and that shouldn’t be underestimated when considering what kind of a president he would make. The only problem is that the “other side” is a GOP that act a lot more like closet socialists than traditional Republicans. So for now I’m still planning to vote for Bob Barr if he gets the LP nomination.
That judge that came up with the JAIL sentence for his daughter not getting her GED timely? Yeh, he’s going to hell. No really, what a complete prick to think that’s a reasonable threat. How about this as a consequence- “Dad, give me the car or I’m not going to school and you’ll go to jail”.
” I believe that there’s a decent chance he could be swayed by good economic policy arguments and break with his party’s socialist leanings.”
Well, Obama did resist the gas tax holiday pandering, which was economically asinine, while McCain and Clinton were promoting it.
At the very least, that’s another piece of evidence that Obama is part of the ‘reality-based community’.
Jon,
I could live with that. It would be a step up from the GOP’s messianic wing, who’ve been taking a wrecking ball to our economy and our Constitution.
Like I said, I’ll be voting for Barr, but if Obama were to win I’ll keep an open mind and listen to what he has to say…so long as he stays away from socialized medicine and restricted trade.
As for Burma, I’m really curious why we’d want to get involved in what is basically a civil war with little to no strategic value to us, with us taking sides against the government that appears to have enough popular support internally to create a resistance just as nasty or nastier than Iraq.
If we were serious about helping the people or promoting freedom, we’d drop all of those trade restrictions that haven’t done a damn thing of note for the last decade other than give our politicians an opportunity to stand on their soapbox. All the sanctions have done is increase the likelihood of repression by keeping Burma poor and isolated (exacerbating internal struggles for resources), while also undercutting the peoples’ ability to resist their oppressive government and pushing the country towards Chinese quasi-control.
Time Magazine sucks.
Dave, in Chicago they chain them to a hot radiator and zap their balls with a prod until they confess. Most are African American, but not all. The cops name is Burge. He’s living on his police retirement in Florida.
that’s what led to the legislation Obama supported.
