Ouch.

Police investigating a child sex abuse case break into the home of a man recovering from intestinal surgery, rip out his catheter, then leave him alone without medical care. Even if this was the right guy, that seems more than a little unnecessary to make an arrest.

Turns out, it was the wrong guy.

This man should file assault charges.

It always amazes me how many police have such poor judgment with people unlikely to pose any danger to them.

Is ANYONE going to be able to stop the police? I mean, seriously, all these stories of abuses coming out, of severe overstepping, of just amazing violations against citizens, and where are ANY politicians? Where are ANY people in the media besides the few we see about them from (like Radley’s sites) coming forward and decrying this? Where are the grandstanding politicians, who are so happy to jump on every isolated incident of something going wrong to increase government power with blanket pronouncements of legislation?

Where are the ‘leaders’ coming forward and promising that this stuff WON’T happen? Or is it just to the point where people don’t count unless they are a lobbying group?

Really, that’s what gets so disheartening: that there really isn’t anyone in the government - the collective body that’s supposed to treat people equally, the body that’s supposed to safeguard people against abuses like this - that even seems concerned about this. So we’re left to think, and obviously rightly, that the whole point is to just stomp on anyone they want.

Another example of asset redistribution! This must be part of some huge underground lottery system the police have developed.

“Hey America! If you stay at home, you might just win! When the big black van pulls up to your house, you’re just a skull thumping away from million dollar jackpots!! Remember, if you don’t play, you can’t win…..so mind your own business everyday and you could be a lucky winner!”

It will only stop if Someone Important, like a Kennedy or a Bush get jammed up.

That, or if a neighborhood gets together and when something like this comes down, the streets are suddenly blocked by all manner of civilian vehicles so the gang with blue as their color can’t escape, then get the thumping they so richly deserve.

I really don’t think any neighborhood has a chance against the kind of heat a properly pissed off police force can bring down upon them.

No thumpings. Maybe a Soviet style summary execution.

I think that boondock saints style justice is a lot more popular with officers and judges than they let on.

Sue and sue hard. The Legislators will only notice when they start seeing repeated judgments and settlements hit the budgets involving police injustice that cost big bucks.

I think a few neighborhoods can do pretty well. My hometown would fare quite nicely, as the number of police is quite low and there are a great number of armed citizens.

I do agree that most wouldn’t lift a finger to assist anyone where I live now. Still. The thought of some police getting a retaliatory “thumping” is slightly nice to think about when I finish reading a story like this one..

To fully comprehend the horror, you need to know that (at least some) catheters include a golf ball-sized ball that is inflated inside your bladder, to hold the catheter in place. Before removing it, you need to fiddle with the catheter to deflate the ball, otherwise you’ll be pulling a golf ball through your urethra.

I can’t see a cop bothering. I hope this guy had a catheter without the inflatable bit.

On the subject of cops practicing bad medicine, try this one on for size.

The victim is currently in prison on “unrelated drug charges.” Yeah, right. I’ll bet it was drop drugs after the victim filed the lawsuit. And all the cops are lawyering up.
