   You guys are optimists. These good-news stories are just minor hiccups in an out-of-control flaming downward spiral toward the complete and utter incineration of all rights as we once knew them, all in the name of eliminating illegal drugs (and the occasional terrorist, rare though they may be).

   The good news is that, in the end, although they will have completely destroyed free civilization, the drug warriors will loose. Drugs will continue to be bought and sold. You can’t suppress a market that demands to be free.

   L. Steven Emmert, a Virginia Beach lawyer who writes about the state’s courts online, said he wasn’t surprised by the rulings. “While Virginia is still one of the law-and-order states,” Emmert said, “the Supreme Court is very respective of Bill of Rights types of cases.”

   Sigh. “Law and order” means all laws. It’s entirely consistent that police officers follow the laws, too. And given that they’re never punished for breaking the law, the best we can do is indirectly punish them by throwing out their cases.

   This can be good news for a smart lawyer to show precedence when there clients are shaken down by 4th amendment rights hating cops.
   I love when cops are forced to acknowledge that is a constitution, and bill of rights.
   Of course it makes them mad that they can’t just bust heads, and treat honest citizens like shit.

   Law and order should mean that police follow the laws (including the Supreme Law of the Land). Exempting police from the law is a recipe for totalitarian anarchy.
