My Fox column…

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

…this week is on the unfortunate resurrection of the Byrne Grant, the anti-drug piece of federal pork responsible for Tulia, unaccountable drug task forces, and all sorts of other drug war mayhem.

This time, it’s the Democrats who are stirring up bad criminal justice policy.

Thank you Radley. You are a big enough name that you can criticize Barack Obama on drug policy and not get trashed the way I have have. Every time Obama has had the opportunity to come down on the side of reason in regard to the war on drugs he has instead taken the position of the moralistic authoritarian status quo in America.

My concerns with Barack Obama are summed up in these essays:

Barack Obama: A Stereotype of Conventional Wisdom

Kerry for Obama, two shades of the status quo

Sen. Obama’s solution for post-Katrina poverty; police oppression

You can see here some of the criticism I have weathered for my putting my opposition to the war on drugs above my desire to vote with the crowd and elect any black candidate: Barack Obama’s War On Drugs http://aleftindependent.blogspot.com/2008/02/barack-obamas-war-on-drugs.html

I’ll add your Byrne essay to the ‘Barack Obama’s War On Drugs’ thread. Thanks.
