America’s Best Prosecutor
Monday, April 7th, 2008I spend a lot of time on this site decrying the excesses of bad prosecutors. Over at reason this afternoon, I have an interview up with one of the country’s best–Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins.

Ask him about his support of ICE raids at Dallas Latino Nightclubs.

Thanks for the link.
That’s pretty disappointing.
I believe I read it here and I’ve been thinking about it for some time.
This would be a good question to ask any DA and this one in particular (if you ever get a chance).
Would having defenders and prosecutors coming from the same pool of lawyers prevent (or at least allieviate) the past misconduct?
Many defense lawyers are former prosecutors (myself included). Wrongful convictions are a product of limited discovery and the erosion of constitutional protections.
The State has too much power to decide someone is guilty and mold the facts to fit. Snitches, bogus science, and the assault on civil liberties make wrongful convictions inevitable.
Robert,
Sorry, meant to give you a thumbs up but clicked the wrong one on accident.
Sure, not a big deal, but thought I would fess up anyway. Thanks for the thoughtful assessment of the currently tilted justice system.
Packratt,
