Abbreviated Idol Blogging

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Because of the reason event last night (which was great fun, BTW–photos here), I caught a DVR-ed version of the show, and didn’t have time to blog it. Via the (finally!) wi-fi at National Airport, here’s a quick take:

Archuleta was probably best. Smithson, Castro, Mercado, and David Cook were also very good (though the judges didn’t seem to agree with me on Mercado). Brooke White was mediocre, as was Michael Johns (even though the judges seemed to love him). I still think Kristy Lee Cooke is awful, but she keeps getting really lucky. The Dolly Parton theme should buy her (yet) another week. Ramiele Malubay was boring as ever.

The bottom three this week should be Cooke, Malubay, and Johns. After last week’s head-scratcher (Chickeze, Mercado, and Castro?), just about anything is possible. But given the judges’ comments and recent voting, I’m going to predict the bottom three this week will be Mercado, White, and Malubay. And believe it or not, I think there’s a good chance Brooke White goes home. She had the disadvantage of going first, singing perhaps Parton’s best song but singing it plainly (and coming nowhere near the White Stripes’ terrific cover of the same song), and getting lackluster reviews from the judges.

All I can think of when I see Jason Castro is that he looks exactly like John Travolta with dreadlocks. Terrifying…

Ah, more American iDull. I get that some people like this stuff but, for some reason, it just doesn’t interest me.

Go ahead, thumb me down for not liking the show.

Please tell me you’re going to explain the carrots.

Nando, I thumbed you down, but it wasn’t because you don’t like the show. It was because you felt compelled - like about a dozen other commenters in this series of posts - to come into the thread and tell us that rather than let the discussion go forward without you.

That’s cool. I actually just wanted to show off my new spelling of the show (I like the iDull part, lol).

I really liked Michael Johns much more this week than last week.

I think the bottom will be Mercado, Cooke, and Malubay with Malubay getting the hook.

But I had Malubay getting the hook last week and she wasn’t even in the bottom three. Who knows about the American voter?

Either Mercado or Malubay will go this week then next, letting Kristy Lee Cook hang around for another THREE weeks.
    I thought Mercado’s selection was kind of a cop-out.

Nando - I thumbed you up because I think you’re the goatse guy. That was awesome, man!

Johns was great, Balko, and I don’t care what you think.

Michael Johns is good, and I would rank him higher than Castro. I’m not surprised people are getting tired of the latter.

I told my roommate last week that Chickeze could be in trouble since Cooke and Malubay seem to always be saved, even though they’re easily the worst on the show.

I think Cook is showing himself to be the best. Archuleta will continue to be unstoppable because of his following and will continue to sing slow songs so he doesn’t forget the lyrics.

LOL at Matt Moore. I was the guy who took the picture, not the one depicted. It was meant to be a metaphor on American feelings towards American iDull.

    It was still fun, nonetheless.
