Madness
Thursday, March 20th, 2008My Final Four: Texas, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and UCLA.
Upset special: The UMBC Retrievers knock off Georgetown in the first round. To score a big upset in the tournament, you have to shoot the lights out, avoid unforced errors, and hit your free throws down the stretch. UMBC shoots well, they make their free throws, and have the best assist-turnover ratio of any team in the tournament.

George Mason baby!!! Sweet 16’s a real possibility.
Good thing I’m not in the same league as you, that’s my final four.
I’m a big ten fan but i don’t think Wisconsin makes it to the sweet 16. I think they’re going to get beat in the second round to K State or USC but since it’s just a gut feeling I wouldn’t put money on it.
I can see that college basketball’s not your strong suit.
It’s Kansas this year…all Kansas. Our team has eight guys who can start, everyone got healthy at the end of the year, we’ve got a deep bench in case we pick up additional injuries and we can play any style of basketball (from run-and-gun to uglyball).
Boring Final 4 for me:
Carolina, Kansas, Texas, UCLA
UCLA over Kansas
Ok I thought the second half of this was a report and I choked on my Diet Dr. Pepper when I saw UMBC beat Gtown. So it passes the shocking part of an upset special in a way Villanova winning wouldn’t.
Tokin42 is correct.
As a UMBC alum, I have been on Cloud 9 since Saturday. I remember going to games in the 1980’s when they had so few attendees they kept the top level bleachers pushed in and let joggers use the indoor track on the second level during games. If more than 2 players fouled out, they often had to forfeit. And instead of a teaming mass of opposition fans flailing away in front of the visiting team’s free throwers, there were three of us, tottering back and forth from a case of Natty Boh apiece jumping up-and-down drunkenly hoping to get on the local news blooper real.
Ahhhh, good times.
I prefer making it to the tournament win or lose.
And since I am now a Graduate student at the University of Florida, who didn’t even make the tournament, life is sweeeeeeeeeeet!
Radley, thanks for the vote of confidence.
That is one hell of an upset special. If you call that one correctly I am going to start hanging around here even more than I already do.
You’re nuts Radley. Keep an upset within a range of possibility; you’ve got plenty of choices this year. CS-Fullerton over Wisconsin, Siena over Vandy, Winthrop over Wash St…But UMBC isn’t beating Georgetown. Georgetown could stumble, just not to a team who has lost to schools like Wichita St and Maine…
And Wisconsin probably doesn’t even make it into the Sweet 16. The Big Ten is poop. They’re going to need to score more than 50 points to beat a USC or Georgetown

My bracket has North Carolina, Georgetown, Xavier and Memphis. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Hook ‘em Horns
It really sucks that Baylor lost. Easily the feel-good story of the year.
Don’t know why, but I had a gut feeling about K state. I think they’re on their way to the sweet 16. If they catch a couple of lucky breaks, they’re going to be the cinderella in the final 4.
UMBC over GTown? Keep dreaming Radley. Go Hoyas!!!
Are you going to issue an apology for the UMBC upset prediction?
Go Hoyas!
shitty day for indiana, 3 teams down and the only one left has to play UT. Plus, my hunch on k state blew up. Good thing I didn’t put money on it.
Can anybody touch North Carolina? They have one hell of a bench. The players just keep coming.
