Prosecutor Misconduct in Dallas
Monday, March 17th, 2008A judge in Dallas has called for a new trial for a man convicted in a 1986 rape and murder, finding that the prosecutor in the case withheld exculpatory evidence from the defense attorney.
This would be the same Dallas County where the current District Attorney, the refreshing Craig Watkins, has said prosecutors used to wear wrongful convictions “like a badge of honor.”
But surely the prosecutor in this case didn’t last long, right? She’s probably working at some Dallas Best Buy, right?
Nope. Janice Warder went on to serve 14 years as a county judge, and is now running for district attorney in another county.
I’ll have an interview with District Attorney Watkins at reason in the next week or so.

Note that the problem was the treatment of an alleged accomplice (who testified at the trial that he was forced at gunpoint to tie the victim). Apparently the plan now is to charge both of them as joint perpetrators.

Dallas, oh Dallas, what an interesting place. Pretty skyline, massive growth, yet somehow what has seemed like dirty politics my whole life living here. From City Council to DISD school board to the DA’s to the police department…. you never know exactly what that smell is or exactly where it’s coming from, but it’s definitely there……
Thanks for the story Radley
Just what yo uget when you have state prosecutors. They all seem to take things personal. It’s time to eliminate DAs/professional prosecutors and move to a system wherein the prosecuting attorney and the defense attorney are chosen at random from the practicing attorneys in the area.
