And This Year’s William Bennett “One-Armed Bandit Award” Goes To…

Monday, March 10th, 2008

…Arelia Taveras.

A 9/11 victims lawyer who swindled clients to feed her gambling habit has turned the blackjack tables on the casinos - she’s suing them for letting her ante up.

Arelia Taveras has filed a $20 million racketeering lawsuit claiming her career as an ambitious lawyer and TV commentator spun out of control after she became addicted to high rolling.

The former high-flier says she mounted losses of up to $1 million and would spend days at a time at the tables, not eating or sleeping, sometimes passing out, and using disposable wipes to brush her teeth so she could stay.

“It’s like crack, only gambling is worse than crack because it’s mental,” the Queens native, who now works in a Minnesota call center, told The Associated Press. “It creeps up on you, the impulse. It’s a sickness.”

[...]

“They knew I was going for days without eating or sleeping,” Taveras, 37, said. “I would pass out at the tables. They had a duty of care to me.”

The personal responsibility, it burns!

And if the casino had tried to stop this dumbass POS from gambling, she would have sued them for that.

What is this? Another club member falling from grace with ZERO ramifications sans she can’t get hired, and or attract clients if she hung her own shingle?

    GAWD like I’m totally shocked!
