What, no Reno 911?
Another vote for Reno 911. Cops suck. I remember watching Miami Vice as a kid and hoping the drug dealers would win because Crockett and Tubbs were mean.
And no Cop Rock????
Yeah…why no Cop Rock?
The Andy Griffith show.
I concur…Cop Rock needs to be included.
I have fond memories of watching Cop Rock during grad school. We made it a point to have a few beers prior to the show starting
No ChiPs? Erik Estrada rules, man! The highway chase senses were a genre in their own right.
Surprised Homicide ranked so low. I didn’t vote for it because the last season was a fuckin piece of shite, but the first 2 seasons of that show were THE best TV ever.
T.J. Hooker
Hmm.. No CSIs, and only one “Law and Order” listed…
Also, “Alias” isn’t a “cop show”…
Um, no Police Squad?
http://imdb.com/title/tt0083466/
Anyone who doesn’t say The Wire is wrong.
One more write in vote for Reno 911.
What about SWAT?
Reno-nine-eleven
I second T.J. Hooker. I mean, what’s not to love about The Shat?
I’m with Russ on this one. Homicide was great until they started brining in what I term “pretty people” for the detectives. Plus I’ve lived around Baltimore so I’m a bit biased. It wasn’t for Homicide I’d have voted for the Wire. Sadly I have no cable, so I wait until it comes out on dvd to see the new season.
“The Blue” (Pacific Blue)
Dragnet, Starsky & Hutch, of course Cop Rock (which actually had good stories if you put your fingers in your ears), and Adam-12 are missing……
Homicide, definately. L&O being #2. Besides The Wire (at least by what Ive read anyway), the rest are mediocre to crud. The Shield was just depressing and rage inducing (for various reasons).
Alias wasn’t a cop show. It was a spy/action “drama” that was good to great the first season and went down hill from there. JJ Abrams quite honestly could get “Lost” from tv/hollywood. Overrated hack.
The Wire is a prefectly acceptable choice, but it’s a crime not to have Andy Griffith on the list.
The Wire may be the best TV show ever, but is it really a “cop show”?
My vote in this category would go to Sledge Hammer!
21 comments and nobody got around to Sledgehammer?
Thank you Patrick. Sledge is the true american cop.
And my own preference, since the statist L&O is on the list, would be to include Perry Mason. Isn’t it humerous how every lawyer show on TV is now a prosecutor’s show. Can’t even find Perry Mason reruns, to tough to edit the show down to the slider size of the current “hour” TV show.
21 Jump Street?
Car 54 Where Are You?
Does Walker, Texas Ranger count?
Andy Griffith all the way. A true peace officer if ever there was one.
Although I voted for “The Wire”… I’ll always have a warm spot in my heart for “Barney Miller”. It was more realistic than most people will ever know.
The poll is invalid. It doesn’t list “EZ Streets.”
I like “The First 48″ on A&E myself.
I’m torn between TJ Hooker and Reno 911.
No Andy Griffith?
