I couldn’t agree more. I remember watching a bunch of these on youtube a while ago. Here’s one that may suit Tokin’s delicate sensibilities.

As a response to that particular video, the whole not-getting-laid thing was a massive non sequitur. It just emerged, unprompted, out of nowhere. People who are regularly getting laid generally don’t go around analyzing the world through the lens of not-getting-laid. In other words, you might want to be careful about what you appear to be projecting.

It’s about being weary of pointless cynicism. I didn’t find your post “offensive.” I found it to be representative of a breezy nihilism that I’m realizing has become very tiresome to me. If nothing else, it’s starting to feel dated — like some ’90s cultural mien that has just sort of worn out its welcome.

Flippant-for-the-sake-of-flippant is starting to feel a lot less clever and funny, and a lot more lame and boring. And intrusive, really.

In my own way, I think that’s what I said. I never said “thanks for wasting my time” or suggest that you shouldn’t have posted it, It is your blog after all. If people can’t take a little sarcasm maybe they’re just looking a little too hard for something to find offensive?

CK the only one with a sense of humor today? C’mon, the amount of time it took to perfect that kind of shadow puppetry you have to know the guys never been on a date. I must have hit a little close to home for JeffT.

Radley, I really appreciate that you link to things like this, like your Five-Star Fridays (even if the music’s not usually my cup of tea), like the other fun things you link to. It brings wonderful balance to your blog, especially with the sheer awfulness of some of the things you link to: the injustices, the diminishment of humanity, the things we don’t ever want to see or hear about, but NEED to be aware of to protect ourselves and push back.

And welcome to my life! Never quite understand why people feel the need to post crappy, drive-by comments like that.

Some idiots just aren’t content to say, “Meh, not for me,” and move on.

I find myself becoming more and more willing to delete these sorts of comments.

“I’ve got $20 that says that guys never been laid in his life.”

It’s just such an insipid reaction to something that’s otherwise so pleasant and harmless. I don’t mean to make too much of some random throwaway comment on some random web thread. But it’s a little symbol of a particular brand of incivility that seems to permeate so much of the modern conversation (and one of which I’ve certainly been guilty myself).

“Bet he’s never been laid,” as the instinctive response to a warm, good-natured little video like that… I don’t know. I guess it would be nice if that sort of foul cynicism starts to feel clunky and passe here soon…
