My latest Fox column…
Tuesday, February 26th, 2008…is on naloxone, and drug warriors who’d rather see drug users dead than high.
I’m not wild about the headline.
…is on naloxone, and drug warriors who’d rather see drug users dead than high.
I’m not wild about the headline.
The drug war is the means by which society delivers the proof that drug use will destroy your life. That’s the nature of all moral crusades.
Title aside, I thought that the article was excellent, Radley.
They should have spent more time editing the text than thinking of a title. There is a typo at the begining of the seventh paragraph where it says “But no everyone is happy . . .”
One other point to consider is that Dr. Madras is just wrong about the effects of Narcan. It doesn’t prevent an overdose. It doesn’t even prevent a trip to the ER. If you OD on heroin, and you take a quick dose of Narcan, it turns off the effects of the heroin, but it doesn’t metabolize it. All that overdose of heroin is still floating around in your bloodstream, and the Narcan wears off pretty quick. So you still need to go to the ER. The Narcan just keeps you from dying while you’re on your way.
So what Dr. Madras is saying is that he wants junkies dead.
I agree with John, this article was really great. Leaving it to Fox to use a terrible headline that couches the reader against your argument from the outset. Nonetheless, I would be interested to see how many people read the headline and thought to answer “NO!” and then were convinced that you were right by the end of their reading. Great job!
Yeah, the title sucks. “Should Tax Dollars…” in any question other than in the vein of “…exist,” the answer is F@#%*& NO. But obviously since they do, I’d sure as crud rather pay $10 than much more…of course, since “The Man” (TM) already takes the whole chunk, it’s not like I get it back if they don’t spend it….
I am going to have to disagree with you here. It is alot cheaper if they overdose and kill themselves.

Ignoring the logic/rational act and focusing on whatever’s left, it do comes down to us versus them. If we wait long enough the more liberal of us (and we are getting more liberal) will secure stations in power. The same thing will happen to racism and other unrelated issues.
Debating this issue as a function of money eliminates so many rational arguments and relevant considerations. I cannot be a part of it even if it is an easy and cheap solution.
