Monday Morning Poll: RIP, Omar Edition

Monday, February 25th, 2008

Crazy thing is, I had a hard time cutting the list down to my own top 20.

MORE: Sorry for the spoiler for those of you with DVR or Tivo. But the show aired last night. And Omar’s demise is on the front page of HBO’s website right now.

Ep 9 is already on demand. I feel like the last episode will be too rushed. Kind of disappointed there isn’t more time.

I seriously jumped when I heard the gunshot that put Omar down and sat with my jaw on the floor trying to make sense of it. I have a gut feeling that it will largely end like the Sopranos - life goes on with no heroic ending…. kind of depressing.

I voted for Lester Freamon, although his character’s departure into McNulty-type stupidity this season has put a damper on that somewhat. But from seasons 1-4 Freamon was the guy on the squad who best balanced out conscience, competence and perspective. And he was the first to point out to McNulty how the job wasn’t life…it was just a job.

I knew it was coming sometime, but to have that little sociopath Kenard behind the trigger was a little bit of a shock.

One question: why didn’t Kenard jack Omar’s lighter- fto finish up the cat he was working on outside?

Also: who else was waiting for Sydnor to get carjacked, while looking at the map like a tourist?

Love theagitator, Radley, but you should annouce spoilers up front, and keep them out of the headline. I’m new to the Wire, just started season 3 on DVD this week. The thing with spoilers like this is that they aren’t really news(little upside) and can really ruin a huge plot point for new fans or people who just taped the show to watch later on. If you are currently watching the Wire, then you know what happened, so a headline like this one isn’t news to you. If you missed it, then you may not want to know before you had a chance to see it and a headline like yours really, really takes away from the enjoyment. What if someone e-mailed you the Omar plot point before you saw the show? As a wire fan you’d probably be a bit ticked. I don’t go to HBO’s homepage, ever, to avoid spoilers. Either way, just have a non-descriptive headline, and a link to the story where you talk about the spoiler. Fox had a major spoiler the day after the 24 season finale on their front page and ruined the show for anyone who had it recorded. Anyway, keep up the good work, but please, no more spoilers for what is probably the best cop show of all time.

NOT the Steve Earle version. He reeks. Matter of fact, I wouldn’t be bothered not to see another Steve Earle appearance in the entire rest of the season. It was cute when he did a couple of episodes awhile back but he’s not a good enough actor to carry off repeated viewings, his character this season got really annoying and I’m kind of sick of listening to him preach.

I’d probably say Season Three’s theme song was my favorite version but I’d have to check all four seasons just to refresh my memory.

And when I say Steve Earle reeks, I’m just referring to “The Wire” theme song. I generally like his music overall (loved the use of “Feel Alright” at the end of season two).

I loved the sadistic Irony of the one of the hardest rolling characters getting popped by one of the smallest kids in the entire series… makes me wonder if Kenard will make it all the way to grow up to be the next Chris Partlow or Wee-bey.

Fav char is easily wee bey, favorite theme is hard to choose between season 2 and 5. I never even loved an opening theme song this much… it really does a good job at making the viewer realize just how broad this underground culture really stretches..im starting to ramble again…

Count me in the disappointed crowd about the spoiler. Was set to watch tonight for chrissake.

Oh well, not that it matters from the likes of myself but you are exonerated in my eyes as over the course of reading you for almost five years, I have yet to be spoiled from anything.
