Blog-a-versary

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

So it was six years ago today that I registered the domain TheAgitator.com, hopped on Blogger.com, and joined this whole “blogging” phenomenon.

My blog helped get me a policy job at Cato, and I’d say went a long way toward landing my current job at reason.

My first week I had about 50 readers per day, mostly friends and family. Including RSS feeds, we’re now at 12-15,000.

And I’d like to think we tried to help some people out a long the way. Thanks for reading. And if you’re so inclined, help me out by encourage 2-3 other people to read this site today.

Happy anniversary, Radley. Gotta tell you reading your blog a few years ago was one of the things that inspired me to get out of the PR game and back into writing. So now I owe you two beers.

From one of the 50 or so who were reading on week one (trying to figure out what Radley meant by “blog”), congratulations and thanks. This site has been and will be a daily read.

Yours was the first blog I had ever read many moons ago, and I still enjoy it as much now as I did when I first came across it. Thanks so much for every post. :)

    Congrats froma 3-year reader.

Agitator is an apt name. You are a daily read for me, and no matter how carefree I am feeling at the time, I always end up angry about some rediculous injustice or imbecilic new application of law.

And I thank you for it. Keep it up!

    Chris

Thank you for your fine work on this blog and elsewhere. May you continue to Fisk people like Patterico, expose government/police corruption, and get liberty-loving folk angry enough to take positive action instead of just ranting on the internet (although that helps too).

Congrats on a great blog; it’s really addictive. If only there was some enterprising public health official who could protect me from your dangerous ideas! (As you can see, I’ve learned a lot.)

I’ve been reading for about 2 years…I stumbled upon the site by pure accident. You’ve pretty much been a 2-3 time a day habit ever since. I don’t ALWAYS agree (though usually) and you have made me see things from a different point of view and have honestly made me re-evaluate ALOT of things that I used to hold true that I no longer do. And re-evaluate ALOT of things that I didn’t hold true but now do. I’m not trying to suck up here (and there’s really no profit in it but just trying to be honest) but I have to say that I am a MUCH better citizen and much better informed person because of this site. I’ve learned to question alot of things that I just took to be a given earlier. You have inspired thought…and inspired ORIGINAL thought for me…for that…Thanks Mr. Balko. If you ever happen to wander into the Mckinney, TX area…there’s a cold beer and 2 dogs that would welcome you.

Radley, you’re definitely one of the best investigative journalists in the country and a great representative of libertarianism. Please keep up the great work.

I’ve recommend this site to friends and family dozens of times due to the great actual reporting on stories I think are well researched and written. Keep up the great work.

Hopefully I’ve been able to spread this site around like butter on hot toast!

3-4 yrs give or take a bit, real glad you turned the comments back on.

And like Zappa, I too have become a much stronger proponent of our civil rights and the constitution as well. Opening the doors and allowing the sunshine in.

    Radley,

Let’s just say it’s a good day at ‘who’s your nanny?’ when The Agitator links to a post. I’ve expected none of the help you’ve given me but appreciate it more than you know.

    Trevor

Oh, and I almost forgot, hardly a day goes by that I don’t tell someone about this blog. Seems like just yesterday my buddy Andy at the Club for Growth turned me on to it.

    Keep up the great work!

    Good work.
I’m not looking for a job, but I am trying to get some traffic on my blog.
I sometimes repost your posts on my blog and sometimes I just steal the links (although I tend to give you the credit.) I have some original posts when time allows.

I also tell people at work about your blog.

You and Jim Henley i regard as remote islands of sanity in an ocean of inanity. Your writing has made me think a lot more closely about the limits to government, something that as a socialist i hadn’t really done before - the solution to a problem for me was always to govern differently, to meddle in a new direction. Whilst i am by no means a full convert to the libertarian way, what you and Jim have demonstrated in your writing is that decency and humanity are not the exclusive preserve of the left.

Wow. Congratulations Radley, and Happy Birthday to The Agitator.com.

I can’t remember how or why, but I know I found you sometime in the Fall of 2002… That must make me an early adopter :)

I’m proud to know you, and am immeasurably grateful for the work you do.

I just ego-searched myself in the archives to see if I could figure out when we “met” and alas, no dice.

This is far and away my favorite corner of the internet.

Many happy returns of the day!
