I'm 39, a PhD and successful in my career. I own and fly a plane. I also occasionally ride my skateboard (with limited success). I hereby promise and pledge to try really hard never to beat anyone (including my own fat ass) to death with it.

Am I still trash?

Oh - and does ANY generation ever NOT criticize the teenagers of the next generation? It seems that as we get older, our broad minds and our narrow waists start to change places - and before we know it, it's all "ooooh, the youth of today - pass the Geritol".

Whatever the provocation, this dumbass cop used excessive force on some young kids who were guilty of being punk teenagers. He also exercised poor judgment being suckered into the situation in the first place, and failing to consider how he would be able to exit the situation with his dignity (and that of his badge) intact.

So yes - in some professions, displaying poor judgment is punishable by any means up to and including death (pilot, deep sea diver, mountain climber etc.). This cop's stupidity tax came due.

The other two stories both appear to involve cases where someone attacked a skateboarder (and much older ones, btw) and then got their asses handed to them. Maybe redeux, like officer Riveri, enjoys beating up kids and hates skateboarders because they actually fight back from time to time.

Okay, I'll give you that one, redeux: had officer Riveri ecounterd these boys in the act of breaking into someone's trailer with the intent of beating them to death with a skateboard in order to steal their car, putting them in a headlock would have been justified.

However, can you see that perhaps there is a criminological difference between that and calling a police officer "dude"?

This guy taints the rest of the cops on his department with his behavior. That being said I can understand his hostility. Look at his cute little spandex uniform and the golf cart he's forced to drive. Other officers in his department are driving a Crown Vic with the light bar on the top or the undercover car with the lights in the grille. They issue a car that belongs in the Castro District in San Fran to this guy and they force him to wear clothes that make him look like a yellow sausage. With his temper tantrum on top of all that (ex) Officer Riviera should be nominated for Douche of the Year.

You are a moron and a scared little man. Not a pretty combo.

"Skateboard Attacks" You're nuts dude.

Maybe you should mind your own business and those nasty, mean skateboarders will leave you alone and not embarass you in front of the "older folk".

Did you shake your cane at them?

I've always wondered how much neighborh shuns the cop that lives in their neighborhood. I doubt very highly the cop acts differently to friends, family, and community. If so, that indicates a Jekyll and Hyde personality, which is close to the same as a split personality.

Cops like this need to have their ass kicked, but most of them are too much of a pussy to put their fists where their mouth is. Hide behind the skirt of the corrupt system and their corrupt supervisors.

Okay, so you've had bad experiences with skateboarders, so now you've decided that ALL skateboarders are "trash." Can you understand how silly and bigoted that is?

What do you know about the kids in the video? Are they "trash?" Do they deserve to be assaulted just because they're skateboarding where it's not allowed? Try to remember that the kids in the video are NOT the skateboarders in your neighborhood. They're skinny, little 14 year old kids.

What do you know about THESE kids and why do they deserve to be assaulted?

i love how you try to determine what i think or assign meanings that are not evidenced...
skateboarders are trash , everyone of them i've met tries to act like a badass with everyone they meet ...
owh , yessa man i'm soooo bad , you look me wrong i hurt you ass ... etc etc ...
(esl maybe ?)
had one earlier today who remembered me from when he had previously threatened me in front of a crowd of older folks and tried to assault me for telling him the area was posted no skateboarding ...
he was going to turn around and come back but when he saw i recognised him he bailed...
cowards and troublemakers everyone...
i have watched them threaten numerous people who didn't like almost being run down by them...
and our city wonders why downtown business's are closing up and moving elsewhere ?
between the homeless , the skatetrash, the 51-50's/647m's and other lowlifes our downtown area is going in the crapper at a recoed rate...
no one wants to shop where all the freaks and scum hang out...
but try telling that to a chitty council with a libtard majority ...

any of them will do anything they think they can get away with...

Why do you assume that these kids are the kind of kids who would attack someone with their skateboard?

What percentage of teen skateboard riders do you believe have or will attack someone with their skateboard?

Why do you believe that police officers attacking non-violent skateboarders will result in fewer skateboard attacks?

Teen Accused Of Killing 87-Year-Old With Skateboard

POSTED: 11:12 am PST March 3, 2005

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- A 13-year-old boy has been arrested, accused of using a skateboard to beat to death an elderly man.

Police officers entered Gerald O'Malley's mobile home Monday night to find out why his 1995 Ford Explorer was abandoned and found the body of the 87-year-old man in the living room.

Early Tuesday, officers arrested the 13-year-old, who was booked for investigation of murder. His 12-year-old friend, who was booked for investigation of auto theft, was accused of stealing the man's vehicle.

Coroner Detective Rick Neufeld said blunt-force trauma to the head killed O'Malley. Police said they found a skateboard at the 13-year-old's San Luis Obispo home and tests will determine whether it was the murder weapon.

Paul Blair, head of the police union, had not seen the video but cautioned that videos show only a slice of a story. He noted that it is impossible to know what happened before or after the camera was turned on.

It's fairly easy to know what happened after the camera was turned on, because it's on the video.
If he meant to say "After it was turned off" he is right but that's not relevant, unless the dude was some sort of psychic who was assaulting the kids because of what they were going to do.

I would be interested to hear his version of a story of which this is a slice that justifies the dude's actions.

"Do we judge a doctor’s 40 year career by their worst five moments? "

I am a physician. If those "five moments" lead to a bad outcome for a patient, you can bet I will be judged -- in the presence of a jury, and rightfully so. I'm held to an exceedingly high standard by virtue of my professional authority and responsibility. Apparently, a man vested by the state with the ability to wield summary deadly force is not.

"Do we take the doctor’s pension away? This is rare."

What pension would that be? Unlike a peace officer, I don't have one.
