Thanks for the entertainment. My girlfriend and I were laughing (sadly) tonight about the elections.

Seems like if you want to cast a vote for someone who can win (Sorry, Ron, especially in your home state Texas where we don’t even vote for another month–kind of feels like betting after the game), your options are basically limited to Stalin and Lenin, or if you don’t like “Big Government” then Napoleon or whoever the historical equivalent of a really rich guy who would say anything to get elected would be.

Our main question is, why, if we are such a “City on a Hill” (since Ronald Reagan evocations seem to be so ‘in vogue’ these days), can we not end up with better candidates than this?

And, on another ranting note, I saw A.J. Hammer on CNN HLN hosting a thoughtful discussion on who would be a better President, George Clooney or Oprah. Immediately followed by a viewer survey: “who will be successful in rehab, Amy Winehouse or Lindsay Lohan?” Yeah, that noise was me throwing up in my mouth a little bit in disgust.

If Clinton goes ahead and wins the Dem nomination (or is the VP nom), and then on to the Presidency, it would mean that American government will have been lead by a member of two families since 1980! It could possibly stretch out to 2016! That is 36 years, folks, of the same freaking people running the show.

    1980-Reagan/Bush
    1984 Reagan/Bush
    1988 Bush/Quayle
    1992 Clinton/Gore
    1996 Clinton/Gore
    2000 Bush/Cheney
    2004 Bush/Cheney
    2008/2012 Clinton?

Folks, that isn’t Democracy in action…thats some convoluted form of a constitutional monarchy!

Is there no other family that has the kind of stroke needed to be president? I would welcome a Lenin or Trotsky, not because of political beliefs, just purely for a change! Wow.

That hill the city is sitting on is starting to look like a very active termite mound. Those thousand points of light look like moth holes in a moldy backdrop.

I would hardly say that a Bush was “running the show” from 81-89.

True, Zeb. Bush probably had more influence when he was working CIA than as the VP. My point is still valid, though, in that we, as a nation, really do want a king…we do not like change, we are comfortable with the familiar, and are content with giving more and more power to the President…that, or there really are smoke-filled back room Illuminati choosing our leaders…either reality is scary.
