Dynasty*
Sunday, February 3rd, 2008The Boston Herald is reporting that the Patriots may have covertly videotaped the St. Louis Rams’ walkthrough practice prior to Super Bowl XXXVI. The NFL says it looked into the allegation months ago and dismissed it, in part because the Patriots told them it wasn’t true.
Well yeah.
I guess I should periodically disclose in my Patriot-bashing posts that I am a Colts fan.
TheAgitator.com

the “unidentified” source is matt walsh, assistant golf pro in HI. he was canned by the patriots in 2002 by scott pioli. he implies that he did bad stuff for the pats and also implies that he can provide proof if ESPN will pay his legal fees.
matt walsh, you pussy, if you’ve got a tape, let’s see it. if not, the STFU, you self serving d-bag.
also, i am an unabashed Pats fan.
Radley, who cares? The Colts gave away a game they could have won at the end of this season. It’s a game nothing more.I have to say the the NFL is reaping what they sow by taking a anti-trust exemption.I don’t like anti-trust,yet find it amusing popular sports empires[MLB AND NFL] get a pass while companies who fuel this economy[Exon any one] are held to public scorn for making profit. We are getting the government we deserve.
Yada, Yada, yada
Go Pats
Putting aside all of the debate about whether the government should be involved, what Matt Walsh’s motives may be, what team the posters of these stories may cheer for, and how good the Patriots are even in the absence of cheating, I’m right with Radley on this.
The NFL caught the Patriots willfully violating a clear league rule. The commissioner demanded everything the Patriots had, reviewed it, and handed down the biggest punishment ever. But then they destroyed all of the tapes without telling anyone what was or was not on them, and now it has come to light that their investigation was essentially limited to asking the accused whether they were or were not guilty. In response, the Pats and the NFL, who both stand to lose big if there is more culpability than was previously reported, are circling the wagons. And all the networks and commentators (who also have an interest in the NFL’s popularity) are happy to dismiss the rumors and praise the Patriots and talk up the dynasty and their legacy.
There should have been a Dowd-style investigation, like there was when Pete Rose was accused of breaking serious league rules. There was not, and now that the NFL and the Pats have destroyed evidence there never can be. That sucks.
As a Patriots fan, I’m pretty ecstatic about these fishy rumors from “unnamed sources” coming out on the eve of the biggest game in team history. Note to all Pats haters: please, please, please continue to loudly question the legitimacy of the achievements of the Patriots players.

Rams did the same thing that year. Two wrongs don’t make a right, but it certainly makes it a non-issue…
Next…
Bordering on blasphemy as a Pats fan, it’d make my night if Tom Brady was unnecessarily tasered in a post-Super Bowl party just to see how Radley would handle that one…
Dr K. has a point. Do you REALLY wanna question the Pats now? And don’t forget what Plaxico said.
I guess Bill Belichick needs to start using his position to promote religious fanaticism and state intervention to violate the rights of homosexuals. Then Radley would give him a free pass–the way he does to Tony Dungy.
As a Packer fan….Radley’s blind when it comes to matters involving the NFL and his over-rated, under-achieving Colts….either description works. That said…though no fan of the Pats…they have accomplished something spectacular and have NEVER seen an offense like theirs. They win when they play at their worst…they KILL when they play at their best. I’m jealous the Packers didn’t pick up Moss when he became available and was absolutely DROOLING at the thought of a Favre/Moss combo.
Stop being green over the Pats, Radley, it comes across as petty and jealous…even if it isn’t. And just admit that they are one hell of a team and you would sell your left nut to have their coach, players, record, and championships in Indy. : )
That being said…go Giants :P
I’m sorry but part of sports is sportsmanship. My son turned two a couple of months ago and he loves watching football. So much so that I routinely have difficultly watching my #1 Memphis Tigers play basketball without him yelling to changing the channel. :) Professional cheating does the worst damage to the youngest of fans. I don’t want congress to investigate, but we all know their victory today, if it happens will all have an asterisk in our minds.
This ran in today’s Boston Herald
Apology
Wednesday, May 14, 2008
On Feb. 2, 2008, the Boston Herald reported that a member of the New England Patriots’ video staff taped the St. Louis Rams’ walkthrough on the day before Super Bowl XXXVI. While the Boston Herald based its Feb. 2, 2008, report on sources that it believed to be credible, we now know that this report was false, and that no tape of the walkthrough ever existed.
Prior to the publication of its Feb. 2, 2008, article, the Boston Herald neither possessed nor viewed a tape of the Rams’ walkthrough before Super Bowl XXXVI, nor did we speak to anyone who had. We should not have published the allegation in the absence of firmer verification.
The Boston Herald regrets the damage done to the team by publication of the allegation, and sincerely apologizes to its readers and to the New England Patriots’ owners, players, employees and fans for our error.
As a matter of fact, given that this then-breaking story may have impacted the Superbowl, maybe the Giants should get the asterisk.
