My girlfriend’s family is visiting D.C. this weekend. It’s the first time they’ve used the website HomeExchange.com.

It’s a pretty cool concept. You upload photos and a description of your house, as do other participants all over the world. You then look for a house you like in the city or area where you want to spend a weekend or vacation. If they like you and you like them, you swap houses.

The site has 18,000 listings, has been up for 14 years and facilitated thousands of exchanges, and claims not a single case of “theft, malicious vandalism, or a case of someone getting to their exchange home and finding a vacant lot.”
