I eagerly await your top quotes of libertarian crazies as well.
Some of those are just sad, others are hilarious! I just wish we had a pre-natal IQ test and we could eliminate the dumb ones.
I was all ready to enjoy that, until I got to the gay kid killing himself. Their stupidity comes at a terrible price.
And we still allow them to vote. This would be a fun poll, but I’m not sure folks here would wade through that much inanity.
You need to put a warning on that link.
That amount of stupid might cause brain damage if you read too much at once.
Radley, would you say that touting a selection of hand-picked anecdotes is a form of spin?
…and as we all know, watching an Internet chat room entitled “libertarianism” would produce nothing but a flow of pure insight.
There are crazies everywhere. Christian crazies, atheist crazies, and so on.
What makes this country great is the freedom of religion and the fact that there cannot be a nationalized religion, it is what keeps us from becoming a Christian equilivant of wacky Muslim countries.
I have to wonder exactly how many of those quotes are from trolls just trying to stir things up.
You just now discovered fstdt? I’ve been reading that off-and-on for years. And most of the quotes are from message boards, not chatrooms.
My favorite is one on that list, that I voted for as the Quote of the Year for that year (2006, I believe): “No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead. Atheists have the greatest ‘cover’ of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims.”
I second Mad John’s comment.
I hate to let some people know I am a Christian! This is one of those times! With idiotic statements like this, I can gladly say I am not the member of any organized denomination! That stupidity is unbelievable. I really liked the gravity comment. NO GRAVITY!?!?!? And most of the Christians commenting, in the statements seen, have not likely read their Bibles all the way through, even once! But, obviously, they are intelligent and know it all, anyway! NOOOOOOT!!
Staggering in both stupidity and ignorance.
Although I am more or less an atheist, I feel a tremendous loathing for these people on behalf of the thoughtful and intelligent Christians I know.
WOW. I think thats about all I can say about that.
Everyone has a certain responsibility to represent themselves in their own beliefs, and not allow their religion or political persuasion or race or whatever be defined by the nuts. If anything, I feel a responsibility to state that I’m christian/libertarian/awesome followed by a brief explanation of what that is to me. Otherwise I have no excuse if people think I agree with the people in those message boards.
I recommend this one for the Archimedes Award.
“I can sum it all up in three words: Evolution is a lie”
(If old Archi wasn’t already dust he’d be spinning.)
I’m with CFisher on this, some if not most of those have to be trolls. There cannot be people that stupid who can still manage to operate a computer. Can there?
If they are for real that is one reason to own guns. When the angry mob of Jesusarians is coming for you reason is not going to save your hide.
If lusting after an apocolypse isn’t the definition of insanity, then…..
OMG….you “religious types” REALLY need to get your panties out of a wad. Is removal of your sense of humor a requirement for religion? And I guess if you took the time to actually READ what was posted there, you would realize how disturbing it is instead of getting your collective anuses out of joint. Nevermind how actually scary some of what is there is.

LMAO…that is really your responses? That’s it? You all should have just kept your mouth sshut and you would have come across in a much better light…now you just look petty, whiney and defensive.
Ignorance breeds stupidity.
Intolerance breeds hatred.
Hubris breeds divisiveness.
Zappa,
It is unfair to suggest that the comments in that “hall of fame” represent Christians, or even Fundamentalist Christians. Those people are delusional. Is Radely saying that those people are representative of Christians? He could be smearing all of us by implication to those people. I sure hope he’s not.
First you showed me that vile “god hates the world” video, and now you link to THAT !!!
You’re getting a kick out of testing just how many anti-despressants I can legally buy, aren’t you?
Sydney Carton,
Nowhere did I see in Radley’s post or even on the website that this is making fun of Christians in general or generalizing to all Christians in any way. I have visited fstdt for years, and I know for a fact that many Christians frequent and enjoy that place. How is this blog entry remotely “smearing” anyone besides the stupid, absurd quotes on the website? It would indeed be unfair to generalize that much, which is why no one even suggested it – which is also why it’s rather surprising you or anyone else would bring it up.
Wesley, I guess I brought it up because all too often when people point to posts like those in the “hall of fame”, the unspoken implication is, “ha ha, Christians are so stupid. And these people represent them.” I also guess in my unfortunate experience, that attitude is very prevalent from libertarians.
Rapture legs around me
as I came unto the word
Christ so good
I panted in her ear…
Sydney…its no more unfair than you trying to switch the focus back to Libertarians. And I believe I’ve seen you lump Libertarians into the same hat more than once…so I guess it is fair of me to do so. And I will characterize “christians” anyway I wish.
I will admit to a large amount of bias due to my upbringing in rural KY and being inundated with the hypocrisy that is christianity since I was a young child so I’m sure I am not a fair example of Libertarian thinking on matters of religion and especially christianity. I have NO respect for it nor am I required by law or any other entity to have respect for it or the people that practice it. Most of them have no respect for my beliefs and go out of their way to shove it into my face and then get all indignant when I explain my beliefs…why should I have any respect? Its all hogwash as far as I am concerned and dangerous hogwash at that. All one has to do is read the posts in the link or just about anywhere else on the web and see just how fanatical and delusional and absolutely hypocritical 99.9% of “self_proclaiming” christians are. But again…just my opinion. And all I have to do is listen to that idiot, Pat Robertson, for 3 minutes and can classify him (and other fundamentalist christians that you are trying to prevent me from lumping into that great big hypocritical hodge podge of christianity) and all who believe the garbage he spews as idiots. Once again…just my opinion.
I will ask you one question. What has harmed more people in the last…oh…lets make it easy and say 10 years? Libertarianism and Libertarians or Christianity and Christians? Duh……
Wesley,
As you can see from Zappa’s long response to me, he WAS taking delight in the implied smear that the “fall of fame” was characteristic of all Christians. And now I’ve gone and rained on his parade by pointing out how unfair that is, and he’s responded with a lengthy rant that his bigotry is justified (and also that it’s his right to be that way).
Well, it IS his right to be that way. But last I checked, so that the government does not worm its way into social life by dictating morality, shame is supposed to be the tool society uses to enforce our broader morals. And so the next time Randy gets an idea to post a link that might be interpreted as a casual remark on all members of a group (instead of a few nuts), he’d better remember that not all of us are idiots who think that this sort of thing will go unnoticed. And he might also remember that it’s not a good idea to associate with bigots, especially after the beating Ron Paul took on the very same subject. You’d think they’d know better by now.
And Zappa, dude, I don’t care if you think Christianity is bunk. You’re not the first. But don’t make an ass of yourself by generalizing about them. You can make fun of Robertson all you want for being an idiot, but I’ll bet that G.K. Chesterton can run rings around you. Anyway, here’s an idea: if you want people to treat your ideas with respect, you can’t expect them to laugh at obvious insults (as you tried to get me to do earlier in this thread).
It requires a great deal of hate to make a crown of thorns. When you make the crown you tend to puncture your hands on the thorns thus a high level of motivation to continue is needed.
In truth, Radley has highlight these as coming from fundamentalist Christians, not Christians in general. And even if many of these are just troll posts looking for responses, it’s still very representative of what I hear coming out of the mouths of the fundies I’ve had the unfortunate experience of having to listen to.
Nah DW, it just takes one of the new ThornBenderandWeaver machines. Very efficient, reduced labour costs, reduced OSHA exposure, available from an importer near you.
“And Zappa, dude, I don’t care if you think Christianity is bunk. You’re not the first. But don’t make an ass of yourself by generalizing about them.”
Its very easy to generalize them as I have yet in my 44 years met ONE that wasn’t a hypocrite. And I like making an ass out of myself…it entertains me : )
