The 1900s

Friday, January 11th, 2008

I went to see my friend’s now-super trendy band the 1900s at D.C.’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Hotel on Wednesday, along with the Agitatrix, and fellow bloggers Megan McCardle and Tony Woodlief. Turns out, Spin magazine was there, too, and did a write-up of the show, along with a short interview with Megan and Tony.

One correction, the very bottom photo is of my college chum Charlie Ransford, who plays bass for the band. Spin incorrectly says it’s the guitarist.

Well, isn’t a bass a guitar? Or does he play stand-up bass, which then would not….or bass on keyboards or something…I am sure we can Venn diagram this out…

Wasn’t that the band that was featured in the movie “The Breakup”?

I have made some purchases based on REASON contributers recommendations recently, and I have not been disappointed.
That said, I went to iTunes and downloaded “The 1900s”.
    Very good stuff.
Please keep sharing your musical tastes.
On another note, I saw Steve Earle play at a bluegrass festival in NY two summers ago, and I completely agree with you and Jesse about the direction his music has taken. And that song that Jesse skewers completely pissed me off as well when I heard it, and when the Michael Moore wannabees in the crowd cooed with delight at the lyrics. I remember getting into it with a good friend of mine over the sophomoric equivelancy of equating the American GI with the Palestinian suicide bomber.
I did like the Condi Rice tribute song though :)

The band in the Break Up was the Old 97s. One of many bands that we are often mistaken for. Others: The 1990s, 1910 Fruitgum Company, 1997.
