The band in the Break Up was the Old 97s. One of many bands that we are often mistaken for. Others: The 1990s, 1910 Fruitgum Company, 1997.

I have made some purchases based on REASON contributers recommendations recently, and I have not been disappointed.
That said, I went to iTunes and downloaded "The 1900s".
Very good stuff.
Please keep sharing your musical tastes.
On another note, I saw Steve Earle play at a bluegrass festival in NY two summers ago, and I completely agree with you and Jesse about the direction his music has taken. And that song that Jesse skewers completely pissed me off as well when I heard it, and when the Michael Moore wannabees in the crowd cooed with delight at the lyrics. I remember getting into it with a good friend of mine over the sophomoric equivelancy of equating the American GI with the Palestinian suicide bomber.
I did like the Condi Rice tribute song though :)

Well, isn't a bass a guitar? Or does he play stand-up bass, which then would not....or bass on keyboards or something...I am sure we can Venn diagram this out...
