Sorry! Fixed.
Tasers aren’t non lethal, they’re less lethal. Less lethal than what, I’m not sure.
And if the guy had any alcohol or drugs in his system, it’ll just be chalked up to excited delerium.
Well if the cops were actually thinking about what a taser does, they would probably understand that shocking somebody with huge amounts of electricity just might disrupt critical bodily functions (like, say, somebody’s heartbeat?). After all, the heart does run on electrical impulses…
They should just say they are *hopefully* non-lethal…so do you feel lucky?
Tasers are less lethal than guns. They are great if used as an alternative to shooting someone with a gun and it is totally appropriate to use them in the same sort of situation where use of a gun woudl be appropriate. The problem is that they seem to be used more and more as an alternative to physical restraint.
A Question: At party over the holidays, discussion turned to tasers. Someone stated that cocaine in the system affects how the body responds to the taser, and that was the cause of all / most of the lethal incidents.
Just to be clear: I don’t think taking some coke or crack should be a death sentence (I don’t even think it should be illegal). But if this is a factor in the shock vs death outcome, I think it should be more widely discussed. I’m certainly no expert, but that was the first time I heard that claim.
Anyone with links for or against?
And should that change how it’s used?
Non-lethal? Is that what tupperware tells them in sales meetings? And we are selling these to housewives now.
Apparently, now you can listen to Black Flag while your suspect lies writhing on the ground in pain. See here.
TASERS! My husband has been Tased at leat 5 times! If Tasers caused death People shouldn’t talk about things they know nothing of. Yes your body does beat off electrical impulses and Tasers do not generate enough electricity to even disrupt a PACEMAKER let a lone a normal beating human heart.
Get off this death by Tasers already I would much rather be Tasered than shot and have to deal with a bullet in my body, nerve damage and or scar tissue.
It’s a new product out there and the hysteria is getting out of control by people willing to be scared by the media. Sometimes people die in custody with or without Tasers. Excited delirium is a real condition, people want to blame Tasers rather than drugs for deaths… because we all know people who are severely agitated could not possibly be overdosing on drugs it must be the Tasers and furthermore police are called in on the extreme drug cases not the occasional user taking doses your body can handle. Drugs kill Tasers help control situations and out of control people…. do your homeowrk before you make hasty generalizations.
Hello every one, I would like to say a few things. I AM a Police Officer in AZ. I have been Tasered. It is extremely painful, and it severely injured my back. During training I was told the Taser has NEVER caused a serious injury or death. Facts provided by the manufacturer by the way. What a load of crap!look at drugs like Viox which gets passed by the FDA released to the public and wait….whats this? people are having heart attacks! So they pull the drug. You see not every one’s body is the same, and to say well we have so many people who have been tasered with no incident doesn’t mean anything. Not every one is allergic to nuts, so I guess we should just ignore the people who are. Taser is a company who distorts facts and has a army of attorneys and doctors to cover their back, period! Google Officer injured by Taser and see the internet explode! The US Army director of research came out saying it’s not safe, and can cause heart attack. I would trust their word. Look up Taser and the Arizona republic, who did extensive reaserch in this field. Taser bullies any one who tries to be subjective about their product. Your right is a new product, and therefore should be scrutinized and researched extensively. It has not been. The facts you are quoting about the Taser not being able to effect a pace maker are false, and were provided by Taser them self. If you believe the crap coming out of the snake oil salesman mouth, than I have a bridge over in San Francisco bay I’d like to sale you. Do your own home work then post.
