It's interesting that several people were quoted "Parents give cell phones to their children for safety and emergencies". I would say the fear of getting beat by an adult while in a Muni/State/Fed setting would certainly qualify as a reason for a cam phone. Corporal punishment is too severe, but lets take this out back kiddo. I'm sure the school will try to fit "obstruction' into its languange in order to prepare our youth for the police state.

These idiots don't any subtlety of craftiness, do they? If you want to ban cell phones to prevent students from recording the bad behavior of th faculty, you need to wait a while after the incident and ban them under the cover of some other purpose(preventing cheating, etc).

This is typical bureaucratic bull that is starting to permeate public schools. When these boards create these arbitrary rules designed to cover their lazy asses, they should be required to justify the purpose for the rule.(The spirit of the law.) An attempt to limit their exposure to liability by making it difficult to prove what happened is not justification for draconian rules.

If the school can't afford a security camera system, I would think cameras in the hands of students would be a good thing. Punish abusers on a case by case basis. There's no need for vaguely written blanket policies that get enforced to serve the self interest of the school administration.

This proposal seems to be another egregious violation of the parents civil rights without sufficient justification.

Ironic because if the students nip the problem in the bud, it means fewer victims, which means lower liability for the school board.

Remember:
1. it was an isolated incident
2. Banning recording devices is necessary to protect the privacy of the authorities
