Bear with me while I play devil’s advocate for a moment.
Mr Putin is without a doubt, the most popular Russian leader since V Lenin. And while I don’t pretend to know the root cause of his apparent paranoia of this fledgling political opposition, I’m quite certain that we will never find out from an English language media outlet. Therefore, I feel it only practical that we confine our attentions to more uh, locally rooted political disasters, of which we in the west are currently suffering an over abundance.
Moreover, the fact that Mr Putin can treat his opposition this shabbily and still enjoy strong approval from the average Russian, is not only proof of his brilliant statecraft but also reveals the opposition’s lack of moral appeal in the hearts and minds of the Russian people.
Thus, I can only surmise that we’re not getting the full story here.
