More Feds, More Force

The U.S. Forest Service is currently $750 million in debt.

The agency still apparently found $600,000 this past September to purchase 700 Tasers.

Related tidbit: As of 2002 (the last year for which data seems to be available), there were more than 90,000 federal officers authorizes to carry weapons and make arrests.

Yeh we get to deal with NPS so called officers all the time. Barney fife’s is more apprropriate title for them! They need more training by watching “The Andy Griffith Show” that what they currently are being exposed to. If that don’t work then endless runs of the Yogi Bear Show could not hurt at all.

NPS, oh hell, rangers are supposed to be rangers, not friggin cops or the more popular, cop wannabees! Those that shave their heads and put on the “utility” belt! Any wipe can do as much.

So tasers work on bears and mountain lions? WTF else do rangers need tasers for?

They might need them to control drunk, rowdy rednecks who decided to go camping for two nights with 18 cases of beer per person per night.

I have no problem with giving these agents rights to arrest people. I mean, what are they gonna do, call the closest town and tell the cops there to meet them by the biggest maple tree in the woods?

I find that cops who shave their heads are wanna-be marines, and with no supporting evidence, believe that they’re more likely to abuse the public that cops with hair. The impression I get that these guys think society is/should be ranked in the same way the military is, with the same sorts of penalties for disobeying a superior, and the same attitude about civilians who might present a danger. That’s just my theory, anyway.

As to the forestry service, I think the bigger question is “How does an agency get 750 million dollars in debt”.

Debt? Probably all the half assed trainiing to become psuedocops. Sorry Nando, segregation of duties is what comes to mind. Lets quit trying to deputize america or the IRS admin clerks might come up with an excuse to shoot you someday.

I have to admit. I shave my head. But, I have to blame it on my mom’s side of the family. I tried holding on but sadly no more 80’s mullets for me.

So, What little is left I shave. Not to be tough but to avoid the coomb over.

Umm… so if I litter in Yellowstone, I’m going to get tasered?

A quick google search didn’t turn up any tasers selling for more than $400 and plenty selling for a lot less. You’d figure if you were buying 700 you might get a volume discount. How did the Forest Service manage to spend $600,000?

Smokey the Bear says, “Only you can prevent forest-fires, otherwise we’ll Taser you into compliance.”

So when is someone going to sell chainmail longjohns connected by grounding wires to metal pads or spikes on the bottoms of your shoes?

Just drain the current out. I suspect that would reduce the effectiveness of a taser.

Even better would be if it could store the charge in a capacitor for release later by grabbing the cop who tased you. ;^)
