Guns and Goverment (With Puppycide Bonus)
Friday, November 2nd, 2007Cato’s Tim Lynch notes the rise in the number of armed federal employees:
How many federal police agencies can you name? The list is getting longer. CIA, FBI, NSA, ATF, DEA, INS, TSA, Secret Service, Customs, Border Patrol, U.S. Marshals Service, to name a few. But there are many more. IRS agents are armed. So are EPA agents. Agents with the Bureau of Land Management are not only armed, they have a SWAT team.
The State Department, National Parks Service and Consumer Products Safety Commission (!) also have their own SWAT teams. Lynch points out that even Inspector General offices are employing their own armed agents. That’s the jumping-off point for this story, and which an armed federal employee from the Social Security Administration shot and killed a man’s dog while visiting his home, apparently to investigate suspected Social Security fraud.
More federal laws, more armed federal employees, and more federal laws aimed at keeping you from owning a gun.
