Man Charged With Murder 41 Years Later
Saturday, September 15th, 2007A new development in the case I blogged about few weeks ago: Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a man for shooting a police officer 41 years ago. The officer only recently died. The shooter was already convicted and served a 10-20 year sentence for attempted murder in the shooting.
Anyone know how double jeopardy would apply in this case? Prosecutors are aiming to convict the guy twice for the same crime, though under a different charge. I’m not really sure how justice is served by trying an old man for a crime he committed four decades ago, and for which he’s already been convicted and served a sentence. But it’s an interesting case.
