Argentina Photos VI: San Martin de los Andes

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

This is sort of a hodgepodge set. The photos begin as we took a boat from Villa La Angostura out to a little peninsula near the town where these bright brown trees create what is sometimes called the “Cinnamon Forrest.” They aren’t really cinnamon. In fact, they’re not really trees. They’re shrubs that sprung up due to the peninsula’s unique climate, and there’s apparently nothing else like it on earth. It was a fun day trip, but damn cold.

From there, the road to San Martin, a touristy mountain town that I actually found a little underwhelming (though we stayed in a really nice hostelria with fireplace and a full breakfast–for $40). Note the switch from winter to fall along the way. The rest of the pictures are from around San Martin, and end with a few shots from the road on the way to Mendoza, my favorite city, and the subject of the next photo set I’ll post.
