Tuesday, April 17th, 2007Just saw an interview with rescue workers on TV. They said the thing that keeps sticking with them is the sound of cell phones ringing on the bodies of the dead students they were carrying out–calls from desperate parents and friends frantically trying to reach them. I’m not a parent. But that brought tears to my eyes.
One small bit of levity: I’m sure they’re not consciously doing so, but many commentators keep referring to the shooter as “this gentleman,” such as, “This gentleman was clearly troubled.”
It’s hard to think of a more inappropriate way of referring to him.
