Drug War Roundup

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007
  • Atlanta Police Chief Richard Pennington is promising more reforms in the wake of the Johnston shooting. The extra checks on the use of informants are particularly good ideas. I’d still like to see more limits on the use of home invasion, a civilian review board with teeth, and videotaping all police raids. But the city seems to be moving in the right direction.
  • For all her craziness, Arianna Huffington is one of the few partisan Democrats who seems to give a damn about the drug war. Kudos to her for calling out her own party on the issue.
  • A new report shows an explosion of children incarcerated in adult prisons, with adult offenders. Many haven’t even been tried, and most have committed nonviolent crimes.
  • The DEA is now accepting drug tips online. Make of that link–and do with that link–what you will.
