“Wasted”
Wednesday, February 14th, 2007I have no love for Barack Obama, but Jesus is Michelle Malkin ever shameless.
And how unfortunate that Obama didnt’ stand by what he said.
I’ll say it: The lives of the U.S. troops killed in Iraq were wasted. They were wasted on an ill-considered, misleadingly-waged, poorly-planned, poorly-executed war. That doesn’t make them less brave, or less honorable, or the lives they lived meaningless. It means that 3,000 (so far) U.S. lives have been snuffed out because of White House incompetence.
And you know what? Iraq has only gotten worse since Saddam was toppled. And President Bush still stubbornly clings to the notion that he can turn a pile of camel dung into a chocolate soufflÃ?©. Meaning each U.S. (and, for that matter, Iraqi) life lost over there is progressively more “wasted” than the one before. If Iraq continues to deteriorate, and we finally pull the troops out three years from now, and the situation there is worse then than it is today, every U.S. troop’s life lost between now and then will be particularly wasted.
None of that is a reflection on the men and women fighting, nor on the men and women who’ve died. It’s a reflection on the piss-poor leadership that’s doing the wasting.
Malkin can disagree with whether or not our troops who died over there had their lives wasted, though one wonders how many more other peoples’ lives she’s willing to waste sacrifice so she can say “I told you so” about this damned war. At what point will she let go of the slavering faith in government is must take to believe that George Bush could yet build an entire liberal society out of poverty, sand, and centuries-old ethnic hatred? Five years? Ten? Twenty? Since people like Malkin still think pulling out of Vietnam was a mistake, I suppose we’ll have to wait at least until the 3,000 dead we have today tops 60,000.
But I digress. Even if Malkin disagrees with Obama, it’s just cheap partisan posturing to imply that the word “wasted” disparages the troops, or their honor, or whatever other jingoistic crap she wants to conjure. It disparages the mission, not the men and women fighting it. And the mission came from the president.
So yeah. Obama was right. And it’s too bad he caved to these idiots.
