Ten-year-old boy calls the cops on his mom for doing drugs.

Says the police lieutenant, “”We’re extremely proud of what he did and taking a step to help his mom out with her drug problem.”

I don’t share the lieutenant’s zeal. And I doubt the kid’s helping his mom out. She’ll probably go to jail, lose her job, and lose custody of her kids. The worst effects of drug use often aren’t the drugs themselves, but what the government does to you if it catches you with them.

One wonders what will happen to the kid, too. Hopefully he won’t turn out like Darrin Jackson, a nine-year-old who also turned his parents in, for a bit of speed. His parents lost their home, and is dad ended up in jail. Darrin ended up burning down his neighbor’s house so he could be next to his dad in prison.
