In celebration of America’s most rock n’ roll rock n’ roll band of the last 20 years announcing two shows at D.C.’s 9:30 Club in September, here’s some very nice concert footage of what I’d argue is their greatest song, “My Morning Song.”
The fishnet lighting tells me this performance is from the Southern Harmony and Musical Companion tour from 1992. It was the band’s first headline tour, in promotion of their second (and best) album. I saw the show at the Murat Shrine Theater in Indianapolis. Still the best concert I’ve ever seen.
The old lineup is largely back, including Mark Ford, Steve Gorman, and Ed Harsch. I’ve seen them twice since they reunited. Once in Williamsburg last year, and they were fabulous. The second time was in D.C., several months later. And unfortunately, it was the worst I’d ever seen them.
Here’s hoping there’s still some 1992 left in the band come September.
