Meanwhile, in Alabama

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

The man shot last week by a SWAT team looking for his nephew is improving. But federal officials are insisting the SWAT team did nothing wrong, despite the fact that an innocent man was nearly killed. All officers involved are now back at work.

Perhaps they’re right. Perhaps no individual member of the SWAT team is at fault for this. But — and this would seem to be rather obvious — innocent people shouldn’t be almost killed.

So just maybe, then, there’s something wrong with the policy of breaking down doors and sending storm troopers into the private homes of the relatives of drug suspects, no?
